3 had a young Leo Di Caprio, 4 was odd as it made a series regular change sides without any reason.

5 (well sort of 5) as it's a TV series not a film will hopefully lead to some critters merchandise and toys.

Soon enough we'll hopefully be seeing Jim Carrey in full Robotnik costume.

Detective Pikachu isn't going to be worried by that nightmare fuel.

"Chill and Likable" :dread:

Who comes up with this branding gooseberry fool?

Also likable is a truly horrendous spelling.

Looks like really bad fan art from the mid-2010s.

So Will Smith is getting gooseberry fool for being cast to play Richard Williams (father of Serena and Venus) as he's not dark-skinned enough. Colourism, apparently. I didn't know that was a thing.

Thoughts?

He ought to stick to playing blue skinned characters.

Limited role options mind: Smurfs, Avatar and possibly playing Beast in a future X-Men movie?

It is an interesting situation, I've not seen complaints along these lines before? (not that I've been looking for them mind you).

Often it seems that where we hear a lot about white-washing and the casting of white western actors in roles which should go to someone from a more minority representation (which we can all agree is a Bad Thing™) we don't tend to hear so much about more "nuanced" inaccuracies in casting like this.

For example you often get a mix of SE Asia actors in roles (e.g. a Korean actor playing a Chinese role) and that doesn't (again, to my knowledge) tend to get called out.

There's definitely an element of "dark blacks" are treated worse by society (if that's true or just an opinion no idea) - and Smith is a "mild black" (so many unfortunate word choices here sorry) that will be acceptable to audience. It's not White-Washing...but...While-Diluting?

Plus it also could into "all blacks just look alike to you" (which is odd given them above is that Smith is a "soft balck" so therefore more acceptable)

Feels like a massive mindfield that lots of white people will give an opinion on

Same thing happened when Zoe Saldana was cast as Nina Simone.

I understand that there can be resentment that “lightskin blacks” get an easier ride than darker skinned black people. It is a genuine thing and isn’t even exclusive to black people, skin lightening creams are massive business in India for instance.

The issue really is that darker skinned people get fewer roles than lighter skinned people, disabled people get fewer roles than able bodied people, trans people get fewer roles than non-trans people and gay people get fewer roles than straight people. That needs to change, but I am not sure that people saying “Will Smith isn’t black enough” is a great way forward.

See the previous page, he could also play Sonic the Hedgehog.

Not even Will Smith deserves that indignity.

Now this is a story all about how,
I ran 'round the loop, turned upside down,
Finished the act in a minute, coz I gotta go fast,
I'll tell you how I became super and beat Eggman at last.
