It's real bad. In Butler's final rant to the (middle eastern) baddie he says the future is for him and his kind and not "your people" or something like that.

At best it's misjudged, at worst it's facist.

I’m not sure we need any more Saw films and Chris Rock is an odd choice. I guess the execs saw the money Get Out made and thought “what if we get another funny Black man to make a horror movie?”.

I don't mind Hoult but he is in no way a Batman.

Other than the Harry Potter he was in, I have no idea about Pattinson. Twilight counts against him I guess, but I think he has worked more on indie movies since?

Pattinson would be a good choice (and I believe it's now been confirmed he won the part). He's a genuinely great actor (see The Rover, Cosmopolis and, apparently, upcoming movie The Lighthouse).

On the other hand Hoult is perhaps one of the most overused actors this generation. I honestly don't think he's brought anything to any role he's ever played beyond a physical presence. He's a poor man's Will Poulter.

Maybe he meant terrorist?

That's what I mean. If you interpret it favourably that's what he's referring to but the ambiguity of the line, coupled with previous quotes from the script as illustrated in this thread, mean that the ambiguity itself is massively misjudged.

Actually, that's being too lenient. I think it was probably judged perfectly to appeal to a certain audience.

Fair enough, I haven't seen the film. Surprising though, you wouldn't think it would be something being done without some kind of lesson learning about racism or a comeuppance, ya know?

I think it's been rightly called out since release as being a racist piece of gooseberry fool. I mean, the initial reactions in here are testament to that. You're 100% right that lessons should have been learned but no. Apparently it made money so, heavily implied racism is back on the menu

Urgh it's such a piece of gooseberry fool film. It's not even an exciting piece of gooseberry fool, it's just ropey old action tropes and another terrible performance from Shutup Buttwad.

I genuinely can’t remember if I saw White House Down or Olympus Has Fallen. I saw one of them on a plane, but have no idea which one. I don’t remember it being very good whichever one it was.

All I know is that people like Katie Hopkins use “London Has Fallen” as an attempt to dogwhistle their racism, which doesn’t bode well for the moral message of the franchise.

Which is the one that has Jamie Foxx as the president? I've seen that one and it was at Steven Seagal levels of poor.

I've never seen any of the "Fallen" films and from the sounds of things that is probably a good thing. Also Gerard Butler looks ropey as strawberry float in that trailer - dude is not ageing well!

Olympus Has Fallen was an entertaining-enough throwback to the 90s, but the sequel was terrible.

Thinking about it, I think the President was White in the one I watched so it must have been Olympus Has Fallen. I can't remember anything else about it other than thinking it was gooseberry fool.

Jamie Foxx = White House Down which was apparently quite fun.
Shutup Buttwad = Olympus has Fallen which was [probably bad?]

EDIT: It's the sequel that's racist. Not Olympus. As far as I know.

Olympus Has Fallen wasn't racist from what I remember, was it? It was just that the bad guys happened to be North Korean.

Balls, yeah it's the sequel we were talking about wasnt it.

No idea of the quality of Olympus.

I enjoyed it at the time. It was pretty violent (albeit with CGI blood squibs which never look good), had a decent enough premise and some amusing one-liners. Marred by some ropey CGI that made it look cheaper than it should have, but it was a perfectly acceptable throwback action movie.

Two-Face Harvey Dent played the president in the Butler ones.

In other news, Chris Rock is producing a new instalment reboot of the Saw franchise.

Image

Tbh I would like to see that character get tortured. :slol:

It looks like he is writing the script, and his vision for the reboot has wowed the high up people. Intriguing.
