Good thing about it is that *someone* will pay the thirty dollars and it'll be up online before the end of the day :shifty:

Would be there to see it in the cinema (my girlfriend's been looking forward to it since it was announced) but not really down for paying £20 to watch it at home...

That's the upside to £30 rentals.

Bunch of narcs in here. :dread:

I feel ripped off for a £6 movie rental, but I think it's regarding a premiere differently, ie cinema at home, you don't watch every cinema release only the ones that are particularly attractive to you. The last few times I've been to the cinema (not that often to be honest) I had cheaper rate tickets because they were pre-5pm. But occasionally it's been a Saturday and I've just wanted to go and see a new film but it's all that palaver and expense. And if you have kids and have to spend on top that can add up. I imagine some parents might end up hosting watch parties with endless popcorn and fizzy pop that won't bankrupt them.

Yep, I think this is the biggest risk to impact premieres' success, it comes down to what percentage of the population, in all worldwide markets, watch pirate content.

And that's the issue. Even if the price is equivalent to a cinema trip, it's not the same experience (not even close to it) and so isn't worth the similar cost.

I'd accept rentals of brand new movies being more expensive than other rentals, but not that much more.

Hopefully it bombs hard or that will be the start of a very worrying price point.

It's a rental in that you keep it only for as long as you have Disney+ membership.

Seems it's a one off fee that gives you access to the film aslong as you remain a D+ subscriber. Not that that makes the price much better.

So it's loosely worth it as long as it takes longer than four months to be added to the regular service?

If you have kids that will re-watch it a lot maybe. But do kids care about seeing the latest release? If you have Disney+ you have plenty of films they can watch and enjoy.

Less expensive than a family trip to the cinema.

I hope they release Black Widow in this way. I'd pay that price to see that.

Without seeing this video I wouldn't have believed how bad it was. But the video shows its true glory. Unbelievable. The Room levels of amazing.

It really isn't.

Me, the wife and kid would cost £20ish. Sometimes cheaper depending on what cinema/what times.

And the cinema offers an experience. A huge screen, great sound system and a day out.

And a £20 rental certainly isn't cheaper for those that go to the cinema alone or live alone and want to watch a new release.

Although I do think it's a dangerous precedent to set that people will pay £20-£30 for a movie and then have to pay £7 a month to keep their access to it.

It's like they saw Stadia and thought "what a huge success, let's base our business model on that"
