He’s no Jasmine :datass:

Isn't she supposed to be like 15 or something...

Yeah, but she shouldn't get bonus points for that.

She's definitely the hottest animated Disney Princess. :toot:

I was 13 when Aladdin was released so there’s no problems there. :datass:

And the new Jasmine was almost born when the original came out, but is still 26 now, so that's ok too. :shifty:

Yeah, within two months of each other. It's madness.

There's also Toy Story 4 this summer.

Let's not forget that the Tim Burton live action Dumbo remake is a thing as well for this year :dread:

I will admit that live action Jasmine can't hold a candle to the original. :datass:

I tend to use hyperbole as a device on here, partly for emphasis and partly because I tend to think in extremes.

Still. That Aladdin trailer is one of the worst pieces of promotional material I think I've ever seen and Will Smith's Genie looks and sounds god strawberry floating awful.

Urgh. Just...urgh.

Could be worse, he could be doing Robin Williams karaoke.

Smith is undeniably charming and given a half decent script has got a few belters under his... belt. That said, it's a bad sign that Jafar sounded wet and we didn't actually get to hear from the actual title character.

I'm most cautious about this one, because I never saw the remake of Jungle Book and never really liked the original, and I quite liked Beauty and the Beast but never had any real affinity for the original because it was written for THE FEMOIDS.

But Aladdin... I mean, that and the Lion King were my childhood jam. I think I might know both word for word. I've seen Aladdin on stage and it only reminded me how much I loved the movie. It's the first time one of the new gen will be directly stepping on my childhood.

Dark times ahead, my friends.

I think he is and they just havent shown any of that in the trailer.

I still say Richard Ayoade should have been the genie.

I'm going to remain optimistic that a)they wouldn't be that stupid and b) Smith has enough showbiz sense to not sign up for such a performance.

If Smith can be accused of anything, it's not that he over-reaches out of his comfort zone. I think it's more plausible that we get a diet Fresh Prince Genie than a Williams impression.

Bring it!

I can't stand that character and performance, it's just a constant barrage of shite forced on the unsuspecting viewer. Sneak preview of Williams' original script:

Just watched that Aladdin reveal - looks wank.

Jasmine's no longer a fittie mcvitie, Aladdin looks like your average street rat with no personality and the Genie looks like an uncanny valley version of Will Smith's brother.

It'll be interesting to see how much they draw from the musical considering they've gone with the black-man-painted-blue genie casting that they tend to use for the show.

Wonder what Pasek and Paul will do with the music, too. I love Menken's soundtrack (Proud of Your Boy has proper grown on me recently), but they tend to write pop banger after pop banger, so it'll be interesting to see how well it all fits together.

This is true but I'm struggling to give them credit for avoiding what would have been the most obvious own goal in their recent history.

I still think it looks terrible. I saw and enjoyed the live action Jungle Book because it felt like its own product as well as being a take on the Disney version of the story. It had enough of a distinctive look and feel to at least be able to pretend it was an artistic endeavour as opposed to Disney simply wanting a risk free box office hit. With what we've seen of Aladdin it simply looks like a parody of the animation. Granted all we've seen is a few shots, but those shots all look atrocious. Look at the desert scenes: the camels float above the CGI background unnaturally. The Cave of Wonders looks off in the way of bad CGI everywhere. Even the live action elements themselves look bad, with the aforementioned wetness of Jafar (who's apparently been cast as a 20 year old this time through for...reasons) and the oddly plain and pedestrian look of Prince Ali's procession.

The less said about Will "I blue myself" Genie the better.

I could be wrong, the whole thing could end up looking amazing, but I maintain that trailer was a terribly put together product in its own right.
