Terrible doesn’t even come close. I’m not sure there is a word to describe how bad they both look.

The one on the right looks far more like Sonic, to be fair. The current style just looks like a guy in a blue onesie, as others have said.

This will beat Endgame's opening weekend, right?

Probably, people do slow down to look at road accidents so watching this will be something similar I guess.

The trailer was something alright, Sonic is the main problem he's far too big, the teeth look so odd and some of those stills look incredibly freaky.
Jim Carrey is essentially Jim Carrey with a mustache, and he was the only good thing from the trailer.
Also the child kidnapping joke near the end of the trailer, bit bad taste or what.

I want to go and see it just to see how low mankind has stooped.

Think that's unfair on Sonic, they'll have backup generators.

I'm still struggling to understand how this exists. Either Sega:

A) Sold the movie rights with no control over the final product
B) Don't care about their main IP anymore
C) Thinks this looks good

It must be A I guess.

The last 20 years of Sonic games prove the answer is B.

I've just started watching Bodies on the iplayer. In it a premature baby dies as its mother bleeds out and ends up with brain damage. It was less distressing then...

Why do you all care so much about Sonic?

It peaked in the mid 90s.

Probs already been pointed out, but I did like the line "Every hero... has a genesis" in the trailer.

Mega Drives are for heroes  .

I don't think anyone's upset that it looks so bad to be fair, just bemused

I don't care at all and won't see the film but I just find it odd that a film about a character as iconic as Sonic is being made by people who've clearly never played a sonic game.
I know we don't know much about it yet but in contrast the Halo series seems to be filled with people who really love the franchise and I suspect of the two the Halo series will be considered the more successful translation of game to big or small screen.

Of course it isn't. I've worked in visual effects, this gooseberry fool takes thousands of hours and millions of dollars. They're not going to be doubling their production costs on a film that's practically bombed pre-launch.

The kids will probably love it though. It might even be enjoyable in an awful sort of way. It would just be great if gaming properties stopped doing that.

I think detective pikahu might be alright though.

I actually want to see Sonic, even though it looks like popcorn trash. I grew up with the lil guy, I want to see him do well, and the design alteration should ensure at least an aesthetically pleasing end product.

Well it really was him and he said:

"The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen."

Remains to be see the extent of the changes but that does sound pretty definite.

Well colour me surprised. I doubt they've completed half the scenes then.
