All they had to do was run a focus group at E3, or any other major gaming convention. That's all.

Why are they making a Sonic film now? It's not the 1990s anymore and most young people won't even know what Sonic the Hedgehog is.

The sonic trailer was terrible... But it wasn't just the visual effects. The feel, plot and style all looked terrible. A new sonic model will look nice but the film will still be a poorly written comedy that's 20 years too late.

Wish my image sig would work

Yeah, it's not as if there have been Sonic games and cartoons getting churned out since then...

Oh wait.

My kids (8, 6, and 3) know who Sonic is but only because I've let them try/watch me play the games a couple of times.

They have zero interest in it themselves. The atrocious looking "Sonic Boom" cartoon is on Netflix but none of them have ever tried watching it despite the fact it appears on the screen fairly often.

Is it? Perhaps I may give it a try. I can't say as I have ever really appreciated any of the cartoon Sonic adaptations. I can't even think what the strawberry float Sonic Underground was supposed to be aiming at!

I just recall seeing the initial images of the Sonic Boom character designs and thinking "what the hell have they done to my childhood?" and therefore dismissed the whole thing!

Little did I know that much greater sins were yet to be committed in the world of terrible Sonic character design. :fp:

Yeah, character design isn't it's strong point. The show itself is good though. Episodes are very short too. Perfect to watch one every now and then

To be honest, I don't want my kids to go any near Sonic. I wish the damn thing would disappear forever.

Well they've been on a two year schedule (2015, 2017, 2019) so they're only really "resting" for one year if the next saga starts in 2022.

It does feel a bit much. We had 16 years from the original trilogy to the prequels (both of which were released on a 3 year cycle rather than the compressed 2 year one we have now). Over a span of 28 years from 1977 to 2005 we had 6 Star Wars films. If they stick to the schedule from that tweet then in the space of 11 years from 2015 to 2026 Disney will have put out at least 9 movies - more if they revive the spin off stuff. To me that seems like overkill, especially as they haven't exactly been keeping the quality consistent so far...

If the quality is there then I don’t really see how a movie every couple of years is too much. We get 2 or 3 Marvel movies every year and they are always big hits and remain popular.

True, but not every franchise needs to follow the same release structure. To me the precedent of a Star Wars movie being "A Big Deal™" that we only see every few years makes it feel more exciting. Also like I say, I don't think the quality has been there from Star Wars lately.

I think the Marvel approach is different in that they are working with a wider cast of characters and the movies that we get each year are more focused titles - they are telling a broader story (or set of stories) from a different set of perspectives. We don't get an Avengers movie every year (except when we do... :slol: )

It's just too much in too short a space of time. Fatigue sets in, the franchise becomes run-of-the-mill and less of a spectacle or "event", the shine comes off and you just see the money machine behind it. I'm so bored of Star Wars now.

I'm here for Johnson's new trilogy.

Judging from the current quality of GoTs, the Weiss and Beninoff ones can get tae strawberry float however.
