Night Watch is a masterpiece but yeah it will be less rewarding if read without sufficient background knowledge. I almost expected it to be the first book in a new era of his writing at the time, it felt like quite a strong shift toward a different style and one that I would have loved to have seen more of.

And yeah, Small Gods is a wonderful book. I've got a soft spot for quite a few of the standalone books - Thief of Time is excellent, as are The Truth and Pyramids

strawberry float me that's a poor choice.

Who would have thought that Rubix's A-Z of movies would ever look respectable.

I rewatched both TLAB and TLOK recently. Really enjoyed the first, and the latter was ok but not as good. I'm concerned about one of the creators leaving the Netflix live action remake.

Alita Battle Angel is utter bollocks and I loved it for it. Crap movie that manages to be a hell of a lot of fun for how crap it is.

strawberry float it, why not. If the forum's all-time favourite band can be Ash then the best film beginning with A can be Alita.

Alien and Aliens are far better. And that's just one franchise.

I don't think the A-Z is supposed to be the best films of all time, rather films that haven't been particularly well received by the critics but have a good fanbase and user reviews.

You're all wrong anyway, Alita is God-tier stuff. Aliens pales in comparison to the majesty of giant eyed CGI robots.

Most of the rest of the list are movies that could be considered the best/highly rated.

Ah, I didn't realise the whole list had been posted and made a terrible assumption based on the "fan favourite" title and the odd choice of Alita, my bad. Looking at the rest of the list Alita really does stand out in terms of perception of the film, although I haven't seen it so can't really comment on whether it's actually any good.

Also Arrival is amazing

Alita is fairly decent, definitely worth watching.

I didn't see the first movie, but I think I know that the main character had a pretty final ending....
