Sad. I had a feeling that was coming from my conversation with the manager at my local branch

What I don't get is why if both cinemas and theatres are struggling, they don't try and do more together. You've got the old vic doing actual shows in theatres that you can watch live from your computer, so how come you couldn't stream the show from an actual theatre into a cinema so you can socially distance a proper performance rather than just watching it on your laptop?

Just seen that the Mousetrap has been postponed indefinitely now. Shows like that, with tiny casts, could surely be done in relative safety.

I don't think enough people would go to those shows to make a difference, Frank.

While a lack of a films is one issue, people are also less willing to go at all.

They’ve been trying for months, but no one is willing to release new films. Old films, live streaming won’t cut it.

I'm guessing Wonder Woman 1984 will be the next to be moved back to a later date (again). Probably to either January or February.

Dune's new release date is the same as The Batman's current release date so it's looking likely that will move to a new date too.

There's a bunch of stuff I'd like to see on the big screen, have been to see Bill & Ted and Tenet but my local Odeon will put on one showing of an old film over the weekend, This weekend it's one showing of Love Actually, so it its not enough choice in terms of time or film.

These film companies are going to have to just take the hit eventually rather than continuously shooting themselves in the foot by killing off the cinemas they're so desperate to fill up.

It's likely going to be years before cinemas get the kind of attendance they were getting pre-covid, Bond isn't going to be getting that billion dollar box office they want no matter what they do with it.

Some studio needs to bite the bullet and release a big movie people want to see on VOD.

Yea at this point I'd just say try and recover as much money as possible and start making new films at least you've got some money coming in then, you're never going to recoup the losses of those 6 months.

Wasn't there talk of a big studio doing this, perhaps paramount, back in Spring? There was push back from the cinemas, but I don't remember what happened after that.

Also, Disney tried with Mulan and apparently it did gooseberry fool, and I guess that'll scare a load of them off.

I think some studios released smaller films on VOD (Trolls World Tour...) but no one tried a blockbuster until Mulan. And that bombed. However, it was expensive and had a lot of other issues going for it.

Id be really interested to see how the new Bond did at a price like £12.99.
