The original was a lot better in this regard, as 'The Big Guy' (as he was referred to by Prima) only popped up on the 2nd play-through (i.e. disc 2 with save data) and only in pre-determined locations.

I think a lot of people at the time never saw him at all tbh and missed half the game, thinking that upon the insertion of the 2nd disc - before having completed the first - that it was literally the same game again but with an alternative character, not realising that the story continues on and the layout changes upon the completion of disc 1 (you could actually start the game using either character and either disc).
