Can I just check, we are all getting excited about the baseball game right? I haven't missed something?

I think it's more of a reaction of surprise that a Sony Computer Entertainment game is not only launching on Xbox, but day one on Game Pass.

I have no interest in baseball but it's a bit unexpected, yeah.

I mean, what next? The Xenoblade Series?

I remember a previous entry of MLB The Show was available on PlayStation Plus so you would now surely expect Sony to do the same again. Or stick it on Now instead (here’s hoping, I’d personally rather it not take up a Plus slot...).

This news is interesting. Baseball on the other hand is not.

There should be no surprise about the game launching on Xbox; it was announced the title would go multiplatform ages ago. Also, unless they're hoodwinking us, this is being published by MLB on Xbox. So this deal may well have been struck without Sony's knowledge. Still, it's a great get for MS, and a great way for the series to get exposure on a new platform.

Baseball games suck balls.

By all accounts these are extremely good games so for the US and maybe a few other markets this is certainly a big addition to GamePass. The equivalent of something like FIFA or PES turning up at launch.

All baseball games suck balls. Even the good ones.

It was the 18th highest seller in the US last year so a decent get. 83% on metacritic. Out of the US sports I'd rather play Madden, NHL or NBA though which are or shortly will be on Game Pass via EA Play. If GP didn't keep chucking games at me I'd give them a go.

I wonder what else turns up in the months and years ahead.

I'm pretty sure sucking the ball is a foul.

The Show is a pretty decent game, and I'm not into baseball at all, but usually buy one of them each generation. Do that with most sports games and Game Pass is great for that as EA covers you for most of them, and now MLB is getting thrown in too.

I’ll try it out, tbh I’ve enjoyed the twitter/resetera meltdowns. The gaming media is starting to praise Gamepass more and more. Even PS sites like Dual Shockers...

Personally I just like how many games I have and how much money I’m saving. Phil Spencer celebrated 7 years as head of Xbox on Wednesday, I’d say it’s gone ok.

He's done a hell of a job turning things around after the disastrous Don Mattrick days.

Baseball. Ugh.

Cricket gets a terrible time, but at least they hit the ball. Tried baseball twice, the crowd is fun (Tokyo) but game is absolutely dull as strawberry float.

I enjoy the MLB games. Bought 2 or 3 of them on PS in the past and had a blast with it. The Home Run Derby mini game is a hit with my kids too.

I don’t do the Franchise Mode or anything too deep but as a single game against the AI, or as a 2-player local MP / couch session, it’s good fun. The presentation and commentary is superb as is the crowd animation and action. It’s the little details I like.

Will definitely download day 1

Bought my 3 years of Gold just now, 3 years worth was just under (by a few pence) £108 on CDkeys which is probably the cheapest I’ve seen a years worth of gold in ages! So how do I go about adding them each to my account and then upgrading the Gold to GPU? Is it just a one off payment of £1 for the GPU or is it £1 a month? Either way it’s insane value that was just too good to turn down.

So, I did the upgrade back in November. I think it only works if you're new to GP to start off.

Anyhow, I added the codes from CDKeys one after the other, so I had 36 months of Gold. After every time, it offered me a free month of Gold; don't take that. Because you can have a maximum of 36 months at any time.

So, if you add that month in between year 1 and year 2, say, you'll end up with 25 months, and then won't be able to add your 3rd year.

I'm probably explaining all that wrong.

Anyhow, you then get the option to upgrade to GPU for £1 for the first month. At least that's how it was worded in the promo.

But what it actually did (and I assume still does), is upgrade the remaining whole time of your Gold membership, and not just 1 month. So, up to 36 months to GPU, for £1 in total. That's how it worked for me anyhow.

Please someone jump in if I'm giving bad advice.

Oh, I also got various messages (after 24 months were entered) telling me to update my card details because my auto renewal date was after the end of my card expiry date.

But you can ignore those and keep adding Gold codes, and do the upgrade for that whole time, anyway.
