MS: Console exclusives are “less important,”

Anything to do with games at all.

Boris Schneider-Johne, product manager for Xbox 360 at Microsoft Germany, explained the company’s stance on the importance of exclusive titles.

“That is difficult to assess. In the past, in the eighties and nineties, that was a major issue. I remember the big ‘Mario vs. Sonic’ debates. What we see today is that the influence of exclusive titles on the sales curves becomes ever smaller,” Schneider-Johne told Golem.de in an interview.

“In addition, we are in a situation that there is a head-to-head race on several consoles and that nobody is super clear in leadership - especially in matters of the PlayStation 3 against Xbox 360.”

“Given the production costs of the games, it is hardly possible for developers to commit itself exclusively to someone. Now Sony makes its own games for the console, we make our own games for the console. The titles are exclusive, as they are also attempts turnout the best of the console, but someone like Electronic Arts or Activision can have a business model of rarely developing for a console exclusively. Therefore, the exclusive title is a little less important.”

F#cking hell! Not content with ripping off Mii's, MS are now ripping off Sony's stance on exclusives.

When will they ever stop?

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I think what they mean is that hunting for third party exclusives and securing them is less important than building up in-house IPs and franchises. Just like Sony are saying.

I'd argue that quality exclusives may become vital in the coming year or so. To a large extent both the PS3 and 360 are identical and it is the exclusives that will differ.

The exclusivity of BluRay to PS3 may be a huge part of the battle so 360 should hit back with new games. If they are not important how come LBP, Resistance 2, Killzone 2 are featuring so heavily for the PS3?

I'd also argue that exclusives play a big role. Good exclusives that is.

Thats quite interesting. I remember posting a interview with Don Mattrick and he said the complete opposite, that exclusives were very important and they were looking to secure some more.

I personally think exclusives are incredibly vital but i'm talking 100% exclusives. The amount of friends i have that refuse to get a 360 because they the likes of Gears of War(maybe not Gears 2), Fable, Halo, etc will all come out on PC.

I can understand that codename47. I used to think that untl I got into tried the only Xbox and realised how nice it was to chill on the sofa with a game. Barely play PC games these days, as being at the desk feels more like being at work.

I think there is the potential to "convert" more and more people but it's important that the 360 games stay 360 exclusive. Some of my friends have bought 360's and have even bought the mouse and keyboard adapter as well.

On a side note, i tried going back to playing the PC but i'm so inexperienced with the mouse & Keyboard i must at least 20mins pausing the game to reconfigure the controls so i can remember them.

What a load of crap. Exclusives are VERY important. Just looked what happened when GTA:IV went multi-platform from launch, Sony lost out BIG time.

Next thing we know both format holders will be saying 'exclusive DLC is more important'.

Oh dear god.

I'd vote for her with that message.

The thing is...it's the range of exclusives that's attracting me to the 360. For every Mass Effect (now on PC) there's a Lost Od, Eternal Sonata, Dead Rising, Too Human, IU, Bioshock (timed)...etc

It's those that attract me.

So I think this chaps talking a bit of balls.
