Multi-Dipping: What's Your Record?

I've been thinking about the phenomena of people buying the same game multiple times and how with the number of ports and re-releases/remasterings we seem to be getting these days it is becoming more and more of a thing.

This was triggered by me looking back over the games I've bought for the Switch which includes the original Sonic the Hedgehog and made me wonder just how many times I've bought the opportunity to hear that ICONIC Green Hill Zone music. So after going over it in my head I believe I have owned the game on the following platforms:

Mega Drive (x2)
PS2
Gamecube
J2ME Phone
Xbox 360
iPhone
iPod
Android
Switch
PC

10 times! 11 if you count the double purchase on the original Mega Drive! :shock:

I just cannot get enough of that little blue guy!

So how about you lot then? What's your record for buying the same game multiple times? Are you a "one and done" kind of gamer or have you got a tale of multiple purchasing obsession?

I've played 7 different versions of Minecraft because they all have separate achievement lists. Does that count?

Hmmm I have owned a few games across multiple platforms, from what I can remember 3 or more different platforms list is below

Final Fantasy 1 & 2 (PS1, IOS, PS3, PC)
Final Fantasy VII (PS1, PS3, PS4, Switch, IOS)
Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 (PS2, PS3, PS4)
Super Mario 64 (N64, Wii, Switch, DS)
LOZ OOT (N64, GameCube, Wii, DS)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2,PS3,PS4)
Skyrim (X360, PS3, PS4, PSVR)
Minecraft (PC, PS3, PS4, Vita)

Definitely one and done where I can help it. There are two games I have double dipped on:

Super Mario Sunshine: Still have my GameCube version, but it came included on the 3D All-Stars trilogy which I bought for Super Mario 64 and Galaxy.
Burnout Paradise: I was gifted the original version of this on Steam and never got around to playing it before my gaming PC died. Got the Remastered version on Switch to make up for it.

Double dipping seems to be a pretty standard practice for me nowadays :oops:

Definitely got an unhealthy amount of triple dips under my belt too. And probably a few quadruple when it comes to classics like Doom, Sonic, etc. Not sure which game if my worst offender though.

I think my biggest double dip is Resident Evil 4 [GameCube, PC, Wii, PS4] and I’ve never completed it… :fp:

My biggest double dip Film is easy to think of; Terminator 2 [VHS, x2 DVD, HD DVD, Blu Ray and 4K].

A load of megadrive games I bought on steam.

I've bought Mass Effect 2/3 3 times technically.

Once at launch, once when they released the PS3 box set with ME1 in it, and once with the legendary edition.

FF7 I've bought a lot as well, PSone twice, PC, PS3/PSP and I'll be buying it on on PS4 soon.

I know it's not a game but I also have 3 copies of advent children, UMD, DVD and Blu-ray :lol:

I forgot about the Final fantasy games, lets see, 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10 all bought twice.

RE4 is a good one.

GC, PC, 360, Wii and Switch for me. Almost bought the PS4 version last month but managed to talk myself out of it. I think five copies is enough for now.

Not a practice I indulge much in, as I'm always up for plugging in the old consoles and playing the originals, rather than re-buying for modern systems.

I do have BOTW for both Wii U and Switch, though. I'd quite like to also have the GC version of Twilight Princess, but I only have it for Wii so far.

I own Resident Evil 4 on GC, PS2, Wii, PC and 360. I played it on Gamepass a while back as well.

The only time I have paid for the same game twice is when I bought Mario Kart 8DX on Switch but I had already sold the Wii U game.

I did get Pikmin 3 free on Wii U and bought that on Switch.

Resi 4 seems to be proving a popular choice!

Ah, Terminator 2, I have a couple of different DVD versions, at least 3 different Bluray versions and the 4K release.

I very rarely double-dip with games but films are fairly commonplace, I have the DVD, Bluray and 4K versions of several films, including

The Terminator
T2
2001: A Space Odyssey
Predator
LOTR Trilogy
Moon

And a few more that I've forgotten. My shelves are almost collapsing inder the weight of games, films and CDs.

There's an audio based version available as an Alexa skill on various Amazon devices too.
