If they ever get built in the UK will you consider using Elon Musks new car tunnels?

Image

I most certainly would not as the tunnels are not large enough to give people easy escape from a vehicle and being trapped in a burning car (this is before we consider multi-vehicle pile-ups) doesn't sound like a fantastic way to spend my last few minutes of life.

Are you a Musk fan and do you trust his idea?

It’s just a taxpayer-funded prototype for the system he wants to use to transport slaves to his mines on Mars.

Even the thought of it makes my chest feel tight, so I'm going with a hard "No."

It's dangerous to use them with other people in the car though. You can end up with car pool tunnel syndrome.

We could get lots of cars chained together some how and give it a brand new name.

I am thinking of calling it a 'train' ?

How about.. How about a large vehicle that can carry multiple people at high speed in a predictable way and using overall less energy for the equivalent load of people?

What if we could power those with electricity? And without gigantic, potentially extremely explosive batteries that are energy intensive to produce and have a limited life span?

Wouldn't that be grand. Such a network could even be national run at a profit, with no need for a hyper inflated private capital bubble, or room to store them literally everywhere, and costs to endlessly maintain millions of routes largely to and from the same places. I heard a story about this once.

Elon Musk convincing himself he is a genius for inventing a metro - but badly - is one of my favourite things about Elon Musk

It's not a miniature train that everyone can get on. Like a train.

And you can't simply get off that thing, and then get on another thing.

What you need is end to end control over the experience. Your personal little train paradise, complete with RGB lighting and customised playlists. Y'know, like Apple.

When the car powered monorail stops... It doesn't stop. There's no announcement. The cars, the tunnel, the people, everything, it just strawberry floating disappears.
