Holy gooseberry fool, who knew we had so many amazing illustrators on here? First DML, then Sandy, now Spikey.

Amazing work in here.

It would be cool seeing the processes of these, mate. Like original sketch, different layers etc. I remember I used to want to be a game concept artist but I drifted away from realism as I got older. Still sometimes doodle stuff when I'm bored though but nothing on this level.

Thanks Sandy, here you go:

Image

1. Line drawing/sketch. Making sure to get the overall design and also proportions of the figure down right from the start.

2. Refine the rough initial sketch

3. Start rendering the face and throw down some colours. I've used blue and orange in this case to get a nice variation in colour temperature across the armour. This was really just to make it a bit more interesting to look at, as grey armour is really pretty boring.

4. Highlights, Lowlights, and final rendering. This final step is where the illustration really comes to life. Rendering the lighting gives the image that 3-dimensional feel.
