I don't think how many units the N64 shifted back in the day is that important, look at the NES wasn't actually that big a deal here on release but the mini sold like hot cakes..... The N64 has nostalgic value now and with some loose cart only copies of some titles hitting crazy money on eBay and the likes a mini unit with a pile of games on it is very interesting to those curious in the system because of things they have read or seen online.

I don't know about Duddy Kong, but you think they would with Donkey Kong 64, Rare did Country and that was on the SNES Mini.

DKR had Rare created characters including Conker.

Conker would be a problem so Nintendo probably can’t use DKR then (unless they have some agreement with MS).

I don’t think they would put Mario Kart and DKR on the same mini console even if they do have access to all of the characters though, so I doubt Nintendo see a lack of DKR as a problem.

I really don't understand why Microsoft would be against retro games made by companies they now own being on a rival companies systems.
It's pretty much free money for them and surely also free publicity on a rivals platform where people who play the games decide they like the studio and see they can only play new games by them on Microsoft systems.

I really see no downside other than stubbornness.

The internet has retroactively changed how we look at old stuff thanks American popular gaming culture. The N64 is probably looked at with more admiration now than it was 20 years ago. Same with the NES and SNES despite both of them being ass blasted by Sega in the UK.

Indeed, most British kids now probably assume 80s gaming was all about Atari, the industry crash and the NES.

They've most likely never heard of a Spectrum and never will.

The rewriting of European gaming history doesn't sit well with me. We have always been such a radically different market to the USA.

Yeah, you have always struck me as Amstrad scum.

The erasure of UK and European gaming history in favour of this US and Japan centric viewpoint is annoying. There's loads of good documentary content on youtube though to help keep it alive. Nostalgia Nerd and Kim Justice especially do really good stuff with a UK slant to it. strawberry float Atari, Colecovision and Apple, we had Clive Sinclair and Alan Sugar.

EDIT: Though I never had any of them myself. I was too busy flying high as part of the BBC Micro Model B Master-Race.

I'm 34

My first console was the NES (wasn't a fan) and I think the oldest console I've played is Atari 2600.

As for the early home computers, I think the only one I've played was the Commodore Amiga, I remember there was an excellent text to voice application where my friend and myself would have endless hours of fun typing in various profanities.

I don't care how old you are when I become Prime Minister your going into the camp .

They were indeed extremely popular and there's a pretty famous image (at least I think it's famous I can't find it on the stupid internet after a 5 second exhaustive search) of Mrs Thatcher showing the Japanese PM our marvellous computer technology.
Erm, they obviously took no notice of such things and never considered computers important ever again .

Primary school was all about NES vs Master System with a few of the dorky kids having Amigas.
