Im most intrigued about what theyre gonna do with the controller, a proper stick for an N64 controller would be amazing. This hasnt even been announced and Im super hyped for it, I know the visuals and stuff are dated but for pure nostalgia, nothing will beat the N64 for me.

I hope they are faithful to the original controller: I've been working on growing a third arm/hand in anticipation.

They would have to stick to the original controller size and shape like the previous 2 mini releases, although it will be odd as it will likely be the same size as the console itself. The controller is the only reason I would get this as the games can be played on the Wii/ Wii U virtual console anyway.

Oh itll be the same size and shape, Im talking more about the mechanism they use, will they stick with the old one that wears out or use a newer mechanism that doesnt age as badly and isnt prome to dead zones. As far as I know there was never a controller released for the N64 that had the modern style of analogue stick.

We should ban After Christmas Name Change for continually bumping this even though nothing's been announced.

Or break his legs. I'll open a poll later.

I never really had an issue with the N64 analog stick from a reliability perspective - was this a "thing"? The only problem I remember was it being very susceptible to a build up of gunk over time. :dread:

They were made of plastic that would wear away over time and leave a huge dead zone that would eventually render the stick unuseable. Its not that it was unreliable, it was just that theyr wore down and became useless.

Hmm, I must have just been lucky then - never had this problem with any of mine and they saw a fair amount of usage!

If they do release a N64 mini I hope they do keep the controller design the same (with improvements such as this), I doubt the odd controller design would put anyone off as presumably the vast majority of people buying these things are doing it for nostalgia anyway?

Oh they definitely wont change the shape or anything like that. As weird as it is, its iconic and a big part of what makes the N64 what it is.

It would be nice if they stuck a second analogue stick on there somewhere, both the N64 and the Dreamcast suffer horribly with just the one.

Wouldn't that require a lot of reworking of many games?

I suppose maybe there'll be a third party controller or something that might have one.

A lot of emulators let you map the C buttons to a second analogue stick. It's not great. Some also let you map the two controller schemes from Goldeneye and PD onto one controller, but it doesn't feel the same to be honest.

The controller design was the worst part of the N64 so I actually kind of hope it is altered. Something more like the GC controller would be appreciated.

I also remember going through about three N64 controllers because the analogue stick kept going to gooseberry fool.

Speaking of the N64 Controller - Retro Fighters are launching a redesign on Kickstarter; it's reached half the goal in a short time and the new design looks great :toot:

Uh no because the body washes itself after allowing the natural oils to build up obvs, everyone knows that! :P

I genuinely don't recall having this issue with any other controller, there was just something about the N64 trident that seemed to accumulate crap. I probably am just disgusting to be honest, it's the most rational explanation!
