From the launch of the original The Need for Speed on the 3DO back in 1994 through to the upcoming Need for Speed: Heat in November 2019, we've driven fast and furiously for twenty-five years!

> What NFS games have you enjoyed most? You can vote for up to five of your favourites in the poll below

> Why not write a bit about your faves - and the ones you perhaps didn't enjoy - as well?

Okay... floor it!

Looking back over those titles, I'd kinda forgotten just how many I enjoyed. I know that some folk enjoyed the early/mid 2000 versions such as Underground and Most Wanted but I've never played those entries.

I loved the original (terrific split-screen fun) and III (great courses) on the PlayStation. Hot Pursuit 2 (which I played on PC and Xbox) was excellent, too - I recall really liking the graphics and the feel of the game. Nitro on Wii was surprisingly decent and Most Wanted U on the Wii U was technically very good. In more recent years, Rivals really delivered on the feel of fast action.

Never really liked Need for Speed. Though I'm not big in to racing games. I know a few people who liked them, but only really the first few and I think Underground.

Only played Underground 2, Most Wanted (2005) and Carbon. I loved Underground 2 and Most Wanted, Carbon was ok I guess. Still get my GC copy of Most Wanted out every now and then, love blasting around in the RX8

The Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted games are my favourites. I’ve bought every game in the series over the years even the awful games this gen.

I just want another Hot Pursuit type affair :(

Hot Pursuit is my favourite, because it actually lets you play as the police. Why do so many games always want you to be on the wrong side of the law? I like taking down perps!

Good call, Celer. The marketing is always focused around "outrunning the cops" when, to be honest, I'd rather be racing around and bustin' scum off the streets.

In Rivals you could drive some pretty neat police cars.

Most Wanted (2012) on the PS3 is the only NFS title I've played and loved. Undercover also appealed - I think due to the story which was told through live-action - but I never got around to it.

Haven't been interested in anything the franchise has had to offer since Rivals and, 3 games later (including the upcoming Heat), I'm still not sure what I want out of this series to be frank.

I played the hell out of Underground 1 & 2 on Gamecube. Soundtracks were great too.

I just had a go on Rivals for half-hour and it's neat. The graphics and sound still seem pretty swish for a six-year-old game. It's very much a "drive around and events kick off" type of approach, but it feels good to zoom around in.

So far in the voting, the most popular titles are Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005), Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) and Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) - each having three votes.

Haven't played an NFS game since Porsche Unleashed, long since lost interest in the series after it went 'Street'.

Hot Pursuit 2 in 2002 was my favourite. The one with Kelly Brook, Underground 2 I think, was also descent. The success of that then brought about a seemingly never ending stream of copycats like Juiced.

Apart from that I've never been a massive fan of the franchise as there were always much better racing games around on PlayStation and Xbox. The actual racing felt rather flat after Burnout.

Hot Pursuit on 360 is the only NFS game I've played. Really enjoyed it.

I did not realise there were so many games! Kind of crazy, I've never owned any and probably haven't played one for more than 5 minutes.

Underground and Most Wanted are the only 2 that I've owned, don't think I've played many of the others (if any?). Underground was fantastic (TO THE WINDOWS!), Most Wanted for fun enough but not a classic.

I was just watching a video with footage of ever version in it. Reminded me that the main thing I loved about the first game was the road rash like setting of being on 'real' roads with normal traffic. It gave you the feeling of being in a dream car breaking the rules, which is missing in the later neon filled chav nitro fests.
