Meh, if it doesn't do games it won't work out as good value as LoveFilm for me, so unless it's absurdly cheap I'll stick with LF.

What exactly is netflix? i'm guessing a subscription based movie download service similar to lovefilm.

In which case,is it better than lovefilm?

Yeah its basically America's version of Lovefilm. However in theory it sounds much better. First off, Lovefilm is primarily disc based, like I had one of the best subs going and I loved it, but the streaming service was awful. I got most of the titles free but its very laggy and extremely low quality, I just used it to rent DVDs and games. Netflix to my understanding is stream only but I've seen vids of Netflix on the Xbox and it seems very fast and very high quality. Also it has loads of films and loads of TV shows, these guys were doing a vid of it on Xbox and you can literally watch say all 200 episodes of South Park at anytime, it has loads of great american shows all available on it instantly. I think it sounds really good, I'm interested to see what we'll be able to access in the UK though. Ultimately I'd like it to be practically the same as the american service with UK shows too but who knows, its quite exciting though, something to look out for.

They have lots of British shows on there though. How will the Americans understand us without subtitles?

In the brief time I used it when it first launched on the 360, there wasn't subtitles. Could have changed since then of course, that was a couple of years ago.

That wont hold for 1080p streaming it would be buffering all the time.

No honest never though of that :fp: . Running a dirty great ethernet cable from my router to front room is just not a feasible thing hence my post about wireless being pants. If I could I would

Works ok for me on a 3meg connection. Quite like the LF streaming service, saves me having to DL movies from USENET, when I can just watch it instantly. Sure, might not be HD, but when you're sitting quite far back from a 37" HD TV, SD doesn't look that bad tbh (and I'm reasonably picky image wise), get up close and yea, looks a bit gooseberry fool, but otherwise, pleasntly surprised. Besides, I've got the PS3 streaming my 720p downloads via those Home Socket Ethernet plugs from my PC upstairs (for when I want to go all HD)... :shifty:

Wireless G can handle HD streams just fine, I'm sure many people already use wireless G with the PS3 for HD iPlayer.

Netflix wrote:Currently, our top HD streams are about 4800 kilobits per second

That is about 4.7Mbps which is well within the 54Mbps of wireless G.

You'd be lucky to get that throughput constantly on G I have tried hence why my wireless network is 2.4Ghz N and 5Ghz N for streaming. I cant even stream Iplayer properly on my PS3 and no its not my router because everything else is fine and I have had 3 different routers in the time I have had my PS3 and all been the same. Also could never stream on the 360 before I changed to the new model which at least has N 2.4Ghz.

American PS3's are doing just fine with instant HD streaming on Netflix and Vudu so we'll be fine here.

EDIT: Disable media sharing in PS3 network settings. World of difference.

Might give that a go and see if it helps.

Highly recommend it, used to have huge problems with PS3 downloads and iPlayer, switched it off and was smooth as butter.

That has improved things but far from perfect still get some stuttering. Thanks for the tip Mitch.

EDIT. Spoke to soon, iplayer hit its limit with HD stream and buffering every 5 secs as normal. Maybe my PS3's network card is just bust? I'm on 50mb BB and getting full bandwidth at moment so not that. Oh well never mind not the end of the world.

iPad app is available now too.

1 month free trial then £5.99 per month with no limits on what you want to watch is very tempting...

Any news on the Xbox app? I wonder if it would work with downloading the app from the US marketplace?

Someone on GAF confirmed that works.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is live.

£5.99/month for unlimited streaming is certainly not bad. Looks like I might have to retract my comments on MangaUK's involvement too: Ghost in the Shell is out in force. Pity that you can't see the full range without signing up.

Also nice to see that they are putting movies in multiple categories (but putting The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumya in Thrillers? Really?)

Any chance of a direct link? Can't seem to find it.

Edit: Whole service is live it seems! €7 a month. I'm in.
