The Witcher is returning to Netflix for a fourth season, but with a new lead playing Geralt of Rivia.

The streamer announced Saturday that Henry Cavill is exiting the fantasy series after three seasons in the main role, with Liam Hemsworth set to take over as the character. The third season is expected to debut next year.

Don't think I've seen Hemsworth in anything but the Hunger Games films, but he never really left any real impression. Hope he's not awful, but I can't imagine the series lasting that much longer without Cavill

Yeah just saw this news myself, real shame as Cavill has been excellent in the role. I'd take more Witcher over Superman any day of the week

Apparently this is one of the reasons Cavill is giving up the role. He isn't happy that it's going off the rails and apparently the producers don't really like the source materials.

I've only read the first book of short stories so far, that was a bit of a struggle if I'm honest.

I really enjoyed the short story books. It was the standalone novel that took me longer to read.

It’s a shame Cavill is leaving the role but can fully see why when even the producers of the series don’t like the source material. Obviously liking the source material isn’t a must, but even if you don’t like it surely it’s a good baseline to focus your adaptation on?

Sad news about Cavill, hopefully the new guy is still good but Cavill was a perfect Geralt T_T

Sapkowski is a far better world-builder than he is a storyteller in my opinion, his books are mostly middling, so I can kind of understand the show wanting to use the world he created to formulate their own altered stories within that.

I liked both seasons and Cavil was a good fit. 3 seasons is actually a pretty good commitment from him to be fair.

I really enjoyed series 1 and enjoyed most of the first half of series 2, the second half just lost me a bit though.

No.

They always made a big thing about uploading their shows all at once so they could immediately be binged. But a weekly episodic release is better from a subscription retention perspective. This is basically their middle ground.

They worked on the VFX for the last part of Season 4/5? of Stranger things (latest one) still while the first part aired so I guess depending on the show they might still work on the later episodes to allow them to release the first ones sooner.
