PostThe Witcher | Netflix | Out Now | NO GAME DISCUSSION!!!!!
by Floex » Wed May 17, 2017 1:01 pm

The Witcher series is being turned into an English language Netflix drama by CG visual effects company Platige Image S.A.

The Witcher series was spawned by Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski and has spawned highly successful (and wonderful) video games.

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” said Sapkowski, who will service as a creative consultant, in an official release. “I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

The show will be executive produced by Sean Daniel (The Mummy franchise) and Jason Brown (The Expanse). The Oscar nominated visual effects studio Platige Image S.A. is doing the show, but the official release doesn’t specifically state if it’s CG animated or live-action—or a mix of the two. No stills have been release yet, either.

Previously, Platige Image S.A. has done cinematics for The Witcher games, which were directed by Tomasz Bagiński. He’s also going to be one of the show’s directors. Maybe that’s a hint at what to expect?

Well, this could be something great. Would prefer live action over CG though

There better not be much sex in this as I'm against that sort of thing.
Just lots and lots of killing monsters and fetch quests.
I wonder how they'll tackle him levelling up?

There's enough game of thrones copies as it is. Don't need them ruining the Witcher as well

Casting news.

Bigger name than I was expecting.

Not sure how I feel about it though. When I think Geralt I don't think him.

No need to hide the star.
He was talking about it and the producers must have listened - it worked for Samuel L. Jackson with Star Wars! If this is a proper big budget show with Game of Thrones ambitions (not the standard Netflix shite) then this could be one to watch. I'd love to see a proper fantasy series.

I wonder what accent he will have to do, American, English or non-descript European, like the game Geralt.

Wasn't taking any chances

But yeah it could be interesting. As I said he's not an obvious choice for Geralt, but I'll be interested to see how he does.

This news has worried me greatly. I really want this to be a great show but nothing I'm reading is giving me any confidence that it will be.

I like Cavil but not sure he’s Geralt... yet.

Though looking at this fan made pic, he’ll look the part!

Fwiw I think it's a bad, bad choice, predicated on the size of Cavil's established name rather than his appropriateness for the role

I'm not bothered about who's in this I just want it to be decent as I think a series like this could be a good challenger to GoT in the fantasy genre.

Soon we'll have GoT spin-off, The Witcher and Lord of the Rings series all with big budgets so a great time for fantasy series fans :toot: :toot: :toot: .

I've only seen him in Stardust, and I even had to look that up, so I've no idea whether this is a good pick or not.

I'd be interested to know if the series will tie into the games' storylines or not, and whether I'll need to finish 3 before I watch this.

It sounds like they're basing it off the books rather than the games.

Oh cool, at least they can drop the amnesia stuff, then. Might be an opportunity for some wider world building.
