The biggest test for Crackdown 3's cloud-based gameplay will be how it all holds up under pressure. In the recent case of Anthem's demo weekend, we saw how one of the biggest game publishers, if not the biggest, can still struggle with the crippling network demands that come with an influx of new players. Microsoft's challenge is even harder, given that players are not just connecting to servers, but also relying on their computational power to drive the gameplay. Staten told me that the Azure service is robust enough to support every Xbox One sold to date playing Crackdown 3 online at the same time. It's impossible to test that lofty promise, but if true, that means everyone with a good-enough internet connection should get the same experience I had under Microsoft's supervision just the other day. And if that happens, Microsoft will find itself in the enviable position of having proved that the cloud isn't just a buzz word or a fad, but that it's a worthwhile opportunity for the future of gaming.

The cloud finally comes to life, but in practice, it doesn’t seem to help make Crackdown 3 a great multiplayer game.

https://uk.ign.com/articles/2019/02/01/ ... 747d000fff

Crackdown 3 has a lot to prove, but if its best quality is feeling like a newer, tighter version of the Xbox 360 original, then that might not be the worst thing.

https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/20 ... s-incoming

After playing Crackdown 3 for a couple of hours, I come away feeling vaguely underwhelmed. It’s not that Microsoft’s open-world shooter is unenjoyable, or bad. It’s sorta fun. But it doesn’t feel like a creatively daring AAA exclusive. It feels like a compromise.

https://www.polygon.com/2019/2/1/182010 ... erry-crews

Without revolutionizing the genre, Crackdown 3 promises good hours of fun. The missions we tried seemed varied, highlighting gunfights but also the climbing / exploration side of the title [...] Out of its particular artstyle (that won’t please everyone), the game might be a good surprise […] The draw distance is satisfaying, and in the most colorfull blocks, the game’s got a certain cachet with a totally kitsh 80’s Syfy touch that is not ugly to look at. For now, we’re far from that announced disaster and beeing available through Game Pass should allow many people to let this exclusivity have a chance

Crackdown 3 is shaping to be a faithful follow-up to its predecessors, retaining much of the franchise's prior successes. Returning fans should find enjoyment, though it's not poised to solve Microsoft's ongoing first-party woes.

Those previews don't exactly seem glowing

However, based on the slice of the game I recently had the opportunity to play, I’m sorry to say I won’t be amongst those eagerly anticipating its release."

The previews are poor over all but several of them state that, if you like Crackdown, you'll like this and hey, it's dropping onto gamepass so it's not gonna cost me a penny.

This was never gonna be stellar after a 2 year delay and it's constrained by the fact that it is Crackdown, Mates and I should have a blast playing it though and gotta get those orbs.

Graphically this has to be one of the biggest downgrades in history

It's free on game pass so I'll play it and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. It does look like it was made about a year after Crackdown 2 on that same platform. But crackdown is still great fun and the upgrades feel so good. It's great to get to the end of a game and be a super hero.

Wish my image sig would work

Good to see this is included -

A Note on Swapping Agents: Your Agent progresses independently of your game progress, meaning you can swap Agents mid-game to suit the situation, or maybe just because you miss Agent Jaxon’s voice (a likely scenario). Simply visit one of the Supply Points scattered throughout New Providence for a new look, or to adjust your loadout in-game. You’ll want to pay attention to what you bring with you; some are far more effective on robotic enemies, for instance, while others chew through enemies in mere seconds.

From the rumours I've been privvy to (humblebrag lol), that first gif is straight up a different game.

What, like a game still in production, or a version of Crackdown that was being worked on but got canned because reasons?

The game's gone from looking like a legit next gen title to looking like something you'd expect on a 360.

The second.

I mean, it's not really a secret that they've had problems. But as far as I'm aware the tech demo they showed off at GamesCom has very little to do with the product to be released.

It looks like a 360 game at times but I wonder if the MP destruction stuff has been simplified on purpose to keep it easier to see and it's supposed to be an 'agent training centre' so it'll appear more basic. Halo 5's mp maps are incredibly basic compared to the game proper so it may be the same. The destructible environments looks pretty small though.

I wonder what people were expecting from this? I think the time in between Crackdown 2 and 3 has been long and in the interim time we've had saints row (4 of them), prototype and several other open world games so Crackdown has lost it's sheen and advantage. It looks like it's Crackdown though so I'll happily enjoy Orb hunting with mates.

I get slightly triggered by people comparing the campaign to the destructible stuff as they are entirely different to each other and were announced as that from the start. Campaign is Crackdown proper and destructible stuff is online mp only, although looks like nothing more than a distraction at mo.

It's less people comparing the destructibility to the campaign as comparing the destructibility to the destructibility as announced. The tech demo showed a full destructible city, not just arenas.

It's understandable that they couldn't get to their target due to the innovative nature of the tech but there's clearly a difference between the renewal and the reality.

From the previews the mp seems a bit meh for the most part, hopefully they'll build on it (pun intended) after launch with new modes and stuff but I get the feeling it may be too far gone to 'fix' easily.

As they said at the time the 1st gif was with weapons on super powerful so can't be recreated at the moment. I assume somebody will get round to attempt it. Whether it was gameplay or technical reasons it was the right decision to have a smaller arena, don't want a massive area with only 10 players.

The no shadows was a bug/option turned off in the pc version.

Everyone does want that, you just want good games to be only on Playstation, don't pretend to be something you're not, own it.
