Went back to Rise of the Tomb Raider to mop up some achievements and collectables as well as play the DLC. Running it on High Framerate on X1X makes it all play brilliantly, and it still looks jaw droppingly gorgeous.

I also booted up Fallout 4 to realise that I hadn't went to most of the bottom half of the map so I'm currently wandering down in South Boston and picking through buildings and settlements. Looks swish down sampled from 4K.

Also playing tons of PUBG with mates, with Miramar playing excellently on test server, when it launches in a few weeks I think PUBG will continue to be my go to online game of choice. I'm officially hooked. It's the emergent gameplay that makes it so compelling, every single match is different. State of Decay 2 may take it's throne for a while though.

Yep. Yesterday I was struggling with one of the settlements and had the sequence of die, long loading time, start at some bastard place far away from settlement, fast travel, long loading time, repeat.

It's the races and other short side missions I think it really hurts. I wanted to love Just Cause 3, 2 is one of my most played games, but it just wore me down with the amount of time I was spending on loading screens.

Mafia 3 (PC) - Been playing this on and off over the last couple of weeks, as a huge fan of the first two games this has been a massive disappointment. It's not an especially bad game and the story and setting are fairly interesting but the mission structure is so tedious and repetitive and I'm struggling to find the motivation to really persist with it.

God of War (PS4) - Enjoyed the start of this but have been repeatedly having a flickering graphical issue which I haven't experienced on any other PS4 time which is really annoying me each time I play it.

Football Manager '18 (PC) - Been playing a lot of this in the background whilst doing other things and it's great but I've still not quite got to grips with the way scouting works, doesn't seem to be as effective as in previous games.

Castle of Illusion (PC) - Decided to play this as a short diversion from the first two games, it looks lovely and it's quite good fun to play through but the floaty platforming has definitely led to a few very frustrating moments.

That's a shame. I've only played it on PC where I believe the performance and load times are much better.

I really enjoyed JC3, it's probably my favourite game for just booting up and arsing around - but I can see that a lot of that fun would be destroyed if it were a slow loader.

I've not bothered with anything outside of the main story for this reason.

Fired up GT Sport for the first time in an age tonight. Lots of new stuff, so much so I've no need to renew my PSN subscription for a little longer. Which is nice.

Such a polished game.

I've recently returned to Final Fantasy XIII on PC (playing it in glorious HD through my Steam Link on the big telly in the living room). Gonna say it now: I love this game. I know that within FF circles FF XIII is somewhat sneered at for a multitude of alleged sins, but all I see is a gorgeous world, fantastic characters and a huge, huge game I thoroughly enjoy playing. Yeah, the story is absolutely daft and needlessly opaque most of the time and some of the writing is just embarrassing, but... I dunno, I have a soft spot for Lightning's idiotic lack of social graces, for Hope's irritating teenaged angst and the game's total lack of self-awareness when it comes to the relationship between Snow and Serah. Honestly, how old is Serah supposed to be? She looks about 12. :fp: This is definitely a game that couldn't get made today.

Still, I know the gameplay is a slog - one big tunnel - and takes the concept of repetitiveness to the max, but I like the journey and all the daft cut-scenes punctuating it. The game holds up remarkably well visually in full HD. I'm amazed at the clarity of detail in the character models, especially. The score is sublime. Perhaps just not enough of it.

I've got FF XIII-2 and Lightning Returns lined-up for after this, but I've seen very mixed reviews of both, so I'm curious but wary. I tend to take what the hardcore FF set have to say about these games with a pinch of salt. I'm just not that invested in the FF universe. To me, it's just fun. Hard to understand, needlessly complicated fun.

When is this trilogy (with all its DLCs) gonna get a re-release and HD remaster for PlayStation 4? Come on, Square - make it happen!

For me this was the biggest issue, the beginning had lots of chat about 'pulse' and 'fal'cie', then it was straight into the corridor themed action without a proper explanation of what was going on at that moment (or even which area the action started, was it Pulse? Was it the other area? God knows) so i just found myself running/fighting without a clue as to why.

I quite enjoyed FFXIII. Sure, it's different to the previous Final Fantasy games (of which I'm a big fan) but it's not a bad game. Trouble is, these days everything is either one extreme or the other, and games are generally seen as either 'amazing' or 'gooseberry fool'. Consequently lots of average or decent games get categorised as gooseberry fool when they're nowhere near it. I liked the characters and the world though, and the slightly batshit mental and overly complex plot.

Sadly the trilogy goes downhill with each game for me; while I thought XIII-2 was okay, Lightning Returns I just couldn't get into. I'll probably go back to it for completion's sake, but it's not great.

I personally prefer 13-2 over original 13, I didn't really enjoy 13 myself but loved 13-2 a lot. Not touched Lighting Returns yet though, I don't think I will considering I've got games I want to play is rather large at the moment.

I'm still playing Black Mesa on PC/Steam, according to the time I've put in sixteen hours although I did have times where I just left it running on screen but other than that I've been taking my time with it unlike my first time round I pretty much just rushed through it. It helps that it has closed captions so I don't feel as lost and lets me take more part in the world.

I'd be tempted to replay Half Life 2 since I've not even done that on PC, but I don't want to be sad when I got end of Half Life 2 Episode 2  :(

With Black Mesa beaten, I've went ahead and started Fairy Fencer F since it was fiver and I've heard it's meant to be good. So far I'm enjoying it, but the few things:

- I don't like how there's no way to skip /shorten these special/magic/transform animations, I don't want to see them million times.
- Too many tutorials at least at start
- Unlikeable protag at the moment.

Having said that I've not fall bored of it which I'm glad about, though that may change later on. Not gonna try for everything (sidequests, etc) out of blue, I'll see how I feel as I progress through the main game.

AC Origins (PS4)

Well, this is a bit bloody marvellous isn't it. That extra 12 months in development really paid off. Absolutely love it.

Fairy Fencer F becomes more fun when I unlocked combos, since I can actually do more than one measly attack per turn when I run out of SP

There's weird curve though. Main story quests are piss easy yet side stuff is rather tough -- well not that it's difficult but it takes me ages to kill these enemies. Pls game.

Just PES recently; my Bloodborne journey ground to a halt and I haven't really played anything else. I'm still joining the Monday Kart and Tuesday Rocket League sessions, though - they're good fun.

As someone who stopped playing and then went back recently and completed the game, its worth pushing through. Did you get stuck on anything in particular or just took a break and haven't been back?

Frostpunk: I love the look and feel of it, but it's strawberry floating difficult. There's a few triggered events that reduce one of your victoy metrics by 2/3rds and no matter how much I prepare, nor how aware I am that these events are coming, they still lead to my failure.
