This game (Lords of the Fallen) makes no frigging sense at times. I’ve spent my entire time so far cutting a swathe through strawberry float off big demons with relative ease but the second I come up against normal human enemies the wreck me in seconds.

One of the worst opening acts of any game ever. Sadly it doesn't get an awful lot better from there.

Ford Racing 3 - PC

This is a perfect example of why i love b-tier racing games, which don't really exist anymore. The tracks have a pleasingly chunky arcade aesthetic and it is far more inventive with modes and race types and variety of things to do while driving in circles than much bigger games which have come out in the intervening decade or so.
Image
There are relay races where you have to change cars at the end of each lap; time trials where you have to collect green tokens and avoid the red ones while still finishing a lap in the allotted time; races where you are in a less powerful car than your opponents but can fill a boost meter by sticking to the visible racing line and duel races where you start against one opponent but each lap they respawn ahead of you and increase in number - 1 on the first lap, 2 on the second etc.

The admitedly small single player campaign is arranged into championships where, unlike Forza Motorsport 5, every race matters because you are going for the highest points total at the end of each series. There are also per-car challenge events which add to the volume of tailored stuff to do.

Unfortunately the campaign has set difficulties so at least 2/3rds of the game is incredibly easy, but its enjoyable nonetheless, and a kind of sad reminder of how good arcade racing games were compared to now.

It's a pretty solid game but it doesn't feel like Gears at all currently. I figure it will pick up in the next few chapters (going to the Locust grave site).

Hah, yes. I'm glad it wasn't just me who found this. Not played this for a couple of days but last night played past the two brothers and said many swear words when fighting the humans. Given your character is human, I guess there is some logic to other humans putting up a fight. Just the last fight to do now, but the attempt last night did not go well so I'm expecting a frustrating time ahead.

It’s especially annoying as a few minutes ago a god just told you how weak their army is without you yet they kick your arse. Tips for the last boss, fire resistance shards are your friend and avoid the red mist.

I've not used one fire retardant shard in the whole game. How do you use them, through the menu?

Favourite them from the menu with R2 like your potions. Switch to that item by tapping square in game, just remember to switch back to potions.

When he starts firing out green gas you get a good shot at whaling on him, just after he strawberry floats off use a fire resist shard and you should be able to weather his fire attacks by running around with your shield up. Don’t bother fighting the minions watch out for him landing as he ground pounds and get a few more digs in. When he starts with the red mist avoid it like the plague as it reduces your health for the duration of the fight.

As long as you can damage him quicker than he can heal himself you should win.

The last segment of Zombi U glitched up on. It really pissed me off.

Also playing Stealth Bastard. It's really strawberry floating good!

Mario Odyssey - going through post game at a casual pace.

Persona 4 Golden - started this 3 days ago and am 16 hours in. And I went in with a strong intention of dropping it straight away if it didn’t click.

I don't see how I can do this. I had a go and have used up all of my fire shards. He was healing himself more than I damaged him which means it is basically going to be impossible to defeat him. What weapon do you use that you can wield quickly and do loads of damage? Spine Slasher (damage 116) is pretty much the best I can use. Lightning hammer does 140 damage but it is too slow to wield and get a hit on him.

Spent all day playing Zombi. Just got past the carnival. Man that was an annoying and now I got to crawl through every inch of the game to get Dee's letters. The end of this game really annoying.

My character is built for agility so I use light armour, a buckler and daggers. Protector is the best one I’m able to wield and that’s what I killed him with.

Super Mario Oysssey after past few days of playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it's time to get back onto post game!

Even though I'm in post-game it still feels like I've got *a lot* to do and that makes me glee. I'm not sure if it beats Super Mario 64 as my favourite game but it's definitely game I need after all these games, can see myself replaying this next year too.

When I levelled up I spread the points across all of the attributes other than luck so that might mean it is going to be too difficult to now have one speciality and I'm not going to grind to level up (as I need 40k per level). I might have one look at going with lighter armour and agile weapons, but if no success there then I think I'll just have to leave it, which will be very annoying given the effort it has taken to get to this point.

Trying to play Thumper (PS4). Does anyone have any tips? I'm on the final boss of level 1 but not sure if I'm pressing the button too soon or too late, but continually keep playing the 2nd part against him because the weapon just won't fire. So I keep cycling round until eventually I die. So strawberry floating frustrating.

Got onto the 4th bit of the final boss bit just can't understand what I'm supposed to do (i.e. when to press the button). Utter BS game and feels like a waste of money. Wish they had just put this on PSN+

.hack//G.U. Last Recode - Always wondered why there weren't more games where you played someone playing a game. I'm mostly enjoying it but for one of the potential hurdles which needs overcoming: how to make such a game whilst getting the balance right between the two worlds. Currently Last Recode pulls me out of the world even more than Assassin's Creed! I'm only a handful of hours into the first game (LR is a remaster of the 3 original releases) so there's time yet for it to get the balance right.
