The People's Committee of Action Presents...
GRcade Discourse Test Server.

https://grcade.minty14.net/

The people's committee needs your feedback!

You can sign in with your own name, but for security reasons you'll need to request a password reset on the new site to get logged in.

Please test out the Discourse features, and see how your favourite threads look in this modern software environment.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

It does NOT like my current username. I was thinking of changing it anyway.

I quite like it, will take some getting used to some stuff but it’s nice.

Also, I love being able to heart stuff. It feels so old that gr doesn’t have the option, sometimes you want to show appreciation it a whole post is over kill so the heart is perfect.

I think Minty said something about Discourse not being compatible with usernames with spaces for logging in, but you can set your display username to use them or something like that.

It was Winckle that spotted it, but yeah, that's right. Can't have spaces in login names, but you can in display names. I guess as the current platform doesn't differentiate, it automatically substitutes underscores.

You should see what happened to <]:^D

You have to request a password reset I believe.

Couple of thoughts so far.

Spoilers do not work right now. So that means staying clear of stuff you don't want spoiled as it will show the contents of spoiler boxes as it doesn't understand the [ spoiler][/spoiler ] tags.
EDIT: They do kind of. You select the cog icon and choose "Hide Details".

It's very different from the way things are now and I'm not 100% how I feel about it.

I do think there is a lot of wasted space on my screen (Literally about 50% or more is blank) either side of posts. I'd like it to take advantage of the space better as I primarily read the site on my PC, not my phone (Though that does get used as well).

I want our Smilies back. We only recently got Capn Scotty and it's far too soon to abandon that. :capnscotty:

Logos - Easily one of our defining features is our custom logos, so I would like to see that be more prominent on the page.

It's certainly slick and it's going to take time to get used to, but I think with some tweaks it'll be a good base to move on with.

A dark theme at some point would be lovely.

Your username should have been converted to Somebody_Else's_Problem or Somebody_Elses_Problem - not sure if it likes apostrophes either. I had the same thing, but your username will display normally - there are two different fields.

There's a character limit, too, so I'm Somebody_Else_s_Prob

Don't like the layout of the main page, too much unused space, and the topic list on the right just seems unnecessary.

Also, will we be no longer able to have sigs attached to our posts? Didn't see any just now.

Oh and the actual post boxes are too narrow.

The layout generally reminds me of when YouTube changed theirs and i quickly reverted to the previous version.

The topic list on the right is one of my favourite features. It makes the forum look active and fresh, makes less clicking to dedicated subforums necessary.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I agree with this. I think it's user-customisable, so people who want either just forums or just topics can do that(am I right about that?).

The just topics view is cool too as it gives you a very compete, straightforward overview of all recent activity. You could conceivably just use that page, it seems very convenient!

Yeah the front page is totally customisable in your user preferences, you could turn off the latest posts view if you want.

Cheeky was correct to point out a lack of decent spoiler tags, so I installed a plugin that blurs spoilers - https://grcade.minty14.net/t/spoilers/85560/11 check it out.

Quite like the custom background you can put on your profile, although not sure anyone will ever really see it!

Played around with links and images and stuff last night and there certainly seem to be some quite cool things you can do with markup, BB code, HTML etc. :toot:

I don't think "making an image still visible but very blurry" is a particularly good implementation of spoilers, which should completely hide something unless explicitly opened/revealed. Like that example, while spoilered I can still see it's a picture of a cat. If people were posting spoilered character reveals in a thread (like smash bros for example), people are going to get spoiled when they don't want to, because even blurred out characters will be recognisable. Another example would be someone posting a NSFW image - heavily blurring it isn't good enough. Also, if you browse without javascript, it's unspoilered. That's the opposite behaviour to spoilers here (or other places like resetera) where without js spoilered things are hidden.

I'm going to come out and say it OR, if you browse without javascript, don't expect anything to work.
