This. It's the modern world blocking JavaScript and then complaining is like punching yourself in the cock then being angry at yourself for hurting yourself

It's the modern world, any privacy or security concerned individual should be greatly hesitant about allowing arbitrary code execution on their device from unknown sources :)

I'm only pointing out the change in behaviour in these situations, the raising of any and all issues should be welcomed, especially when it's a regression from current functionality. The subsequent prioritisation (and deciding what is and isn't a blocker to a migration) is separate to the current assessment where we're making note of all issues, so I don't think it's unreasonable at all to comment on things like non-js behaviour.

I especially don't think it's unreasonable to point out poor UX when javascript is blocked, where a workable solution is just as easy to implement. That's on the developer for not considering the non js use case. It's okay for some functionality to require js (that's why it exists), but the alternative UX should always be considered - even if it's a general solution of "this page requires javascript, sorry". In the specific case of revealing spoilers, a better implementation in the non-js case would be having the spoiler hidden, and preferably stating that the user should enable js to view them (or do something else as a workaround, like quote the post).

I don't think it's a blocker to a discourse migration, but I think it's noteworthy all the same.

Are you able to block js but allow it just for GRcade?

Probably blocked on that particular network. Test on 4G.

Aww, I don’t have 4G in the office. :( How will I be able to use this site for aggressive procrastination after the move?

I wonder if it is just the domain it doesn't like. I will try and set up a subdomain on my domain rather than minty's. We'll see if that helps. But it might be some keyword is flagging it in your company's webfilter.

Yes, it's mostly what I do

If blocking js is the only way to get pages on discourse though... :shifty:

I think after a few days without pages you wouldn't want to go back. It's just getting used to it.

The domain theory seems potentially correct. I can visit the main Discourse site with no problems.

Shouldn't be an issue with the domain as I use AWS Route53.

Would be interesting to get a ping and/or nslookup. It's probably more reassuring if it is just domain resolution, because I have no need for my domain to be reachable from the US, and it would mean it shouldn't be a problem once we move to the proper domain.

Can't even spell administration! Nice try, bot. Don't listen to Dual, Pavlo. He'll just try and steal your bank details.

Unrelated, what's your mother's maiden name?

whats the consensus on Read vs. un-Read threads? I like on GR just now how they are Red when there is a new message, and Grey when you have been there and are up to date.

fyi love the timeline feature in large threads

I wouldn't say it's an Edge 7. Any specific reason you chose this topic to ask us?

How long would it take to migrate the entire forum to Discourse?

It took me 2 weeks and I already did it.

Oh, yeah. I forgot that it was all of GRcade that was moved over. How would we (you or those involved) go about posting there, say now, and then importing the data from between your transfer and now?

The Discourse test went well and I think people broadly saw the potential. It's just a case of getting permanent hosting sorted out. We really need to migrate server soon, so a move of software would probably happen at the same time.

There are some features that we would need to do a bit of modding to carry over as well.

The most controversial thing is likely to be pagination, I think. Although the implementation of infinite scroll in Discourse is quite good, I can't imagine everyone being happy with it, so I personally do think that it needs to be modded in as a user option. I also think we would also have to work particularly closely with Ironhide, as I know he uses a legacy theme for accessibility reasons, and I wouldn't want him to become unable to use the forum.

Your point about IRonhide is a good one. I might tag him in the test thread and ask him to poke around the Discourse test.

I also feel like the pagination thing is totally ridiculous btw. The timeline bar is there to find older/newer posts, and pages for content like this doesn't even make sense and was just a limitation of the technology of the 90s.

Mm, I think I will personally get used to infinite scroll, and I like how fluid it makes reading recent conversations.

I just feel it will be too different for some users.
