Yeah I think it is a case of adaptation more than anything.

That said is there a way to replicate the current ability to highlight the location of something from the thread title? (e.g. Gears of Duty Thread - New Trailer on pg. 137 check it out bro!" and the like)

But is there an easy way to jump to a post number? I know people can post a quote/link to another post but is there are way to get to it directly without needing to read the post where it is linked and clicking through?

Open the thread. On mobile click the numbers floating at the bottom that represent post you are on out of total posts in the thread,e.g. 105/263. Then click jump to, the below screen will appear and you can type in the post number you want.

Ah okay cool, tiny bit clunky but then the current approach isn't perfect either!

Any way to do this on desktop?

Errkal's app which he isn't updating anymore - will a move to discourse bugger it?

Probably yes. But Discourse is way better in a mobile browser than phpbb, so I wouldn't think it much of a loss.

Drag the slider on the right, or append /<post number> to the end of the thread URL.

Hmm, I think that may be a bit of a blow for some. Dragging the slider to a specific post in a long thread feels like it could be a bit fiddly and imprecise and plenty of people won't be comfortable modifying URLs.

Is any of this stuff easy to mod? If the desktop version had a "jump to post" option like the mobile site then I think that would probably go down well.

Or people might be fine with it for all I know!

Oh just found this. Be on a thread and press "#" on your keyboard. The jump to box appears.

Awesome! I was poking about with it myself last night as it seemed there must be a way to get the box up on the desktop version as well!

As much as I like pagination, my money is on signatures - especially once it hits christmas sigswap time

There's a plugin that could be added if the demand was there: https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-signatures/42263

Agreed. I will install the plugin and see what's it like. I'll post when it's up and running and sig lovers can log on and check it out.

You need to go into your profile and turn on viewing sigs and customise your sig.

The worst thing about moving to infinite scrolling is going to be scrolling through historic threads and finding all the rubbish double posts because people didn't want whatever they were talking about stuck at the bottom of a page :dread:

Haha, but now we won't have any more of that. It is pretty annoying to write a huge effortpost and have it languish at the bottom of a page and get ignored.

Yeah, the fact that the "bottom of page lol" posts won't have to happen any more is a big plus for infinite scrolling tbf. I'm sold

I actually looked up "bottom post" (lol no context thread) on the discourse site to see if I could find examples, and found one of your posts from 2011 complaining about it!
