Looking at getting a new gaming headset for the mancave.

At the moment I've got this connected to the PC, it's ok but not the greatest one the cable keeps getting in the way and the sound quality isn't the grestest (and annoyingly I paid £38 for mine and now its sub £20  ) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0792TLYP5

I'm wanting a decent comfy wireless headphones BUT I'm wanting one that I can easily switch between connecting to the PC and the Xbox Series X when it releases - is this possible? Don't want two headsets when the console and PC are right next to each other and running off the same monitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand the XSX will use a proprietary wireless signal like the Xbox one. So if you are going wireless you will need a headset that works with the proprietary Xbox signal. So in order to use it for both the Xbox and PC you would need a headset that works over Bluetooth (for the PC) and a dongle (for the XSX). Or, if the headset doesn't have Bluetooth you would need to switch the dongle between the devices depending on what you are using.

I don't think a Bluetooth dongle works on the XSX/Xbox One so you can't work around it that way either.

As an aside, the DAC in the Xbox One controller is pretty decent so I am assuming the same will be the case for the new controller. Just in case that sways your wireless decision. I use an Audio Technica ATH-ADG1X and just switch it between the PC and Xbox controller as needed.

Cheers for the advice yeah this is what was confusing me as I was reading about the Xbox using a different connection rather than bluetooth.

This particular list does have a recommendation for a wireless headset that utilises both Microsoft's proprietary signal and Bluetooth:

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-best-gaming-headset-for-pc-xbox-one-ps4-switch-7032#xbox

That will allow it to be wirelessly connected to both your Xbox and PC. If the direct link doesn't work, it's the Arctis 9X.

What I've found with these lists though, is that they don't necessarily take long-term use into consideration. I remember looking at headsets a couple of years ago, and although they place well in these 'best headset' lists, the Amazon reviews told another story due to durability and other longer-term use issues.

Saying that, if you can get away with wired, I would go wired. That way it rules out both connection issues and battery issues which will be factors in the long term. If your PC and Xbox are nearby it will just be a case of popping out the lead from the front of the PC and popping it into the Xbox controller.

Is there a wired headset that will do surround when plugged in to a One S controller?

EDIT: Turns out the XBox has built in virtual surround now so I'm tempted to stick with the pair of HyperX Cloud II's that I've already got as the sound is quite decent on them.

Ok, so I was looking for one that worked on One S and Series X and saw these on Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LucidSound-LS3 ... B071JSYH33

Price seems really decent (RRP is $180) and the reviews I read are solid though delivery is a little long so I'm wondering if they're coming from the states. Only available via Amazon in the UK.

I have Astro A40’s at the moment, hoping by plugging these into the PS5 controller I’ll get the full 3D audio effect. I might keep an eye on those official SONY Pulse 3D ones though and see how they review

It really annoys me that the consoles don't accept wireless headphones.

I have the Sony WF-1000XM3 and they don't work with the PS4 :slol: .
WTF Sony at least maybe have some communications between departments you lazy banana splits :x .

I’ve got the Arctis 9X that JT mentioned above, which works wirelessly with the Xbox without a dongle and also has (simultaneous) Bluetooth. I highly recommend it, but I should say that I only use it occasionally, so I can’t vouch for its long-term use.

Cheers, I've held off for the time being, going to pick something up beginning of November before the Series X drops. Hoping maybe Amazon Prime Day next week has something on offer.

Headphones are a safe bet for decent discounts on prime day and black Friday.
