I got a PS5 and, like probably most other people, what I play most is either back catalogue PS4 stuff that I missed due to only having an XBOX last generation (things like Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo Sport, Infamous 2 etc) or upgraded versions of PS4 games (Spiderman, No Man's Sky, Fifa 21). I'm still incredibly pleased with the purchase because it blows my mind with the detail and load times, but I'm definitely also looking forward to having some full games designed for these machines from the ground up.

I have an XSX but have only had it for about two days so can't really comment on it too much. Lovely looking machine though, really sleek and...rectangular. Have only played Katana Zero on it which obviously has absolutely no requirement to be a next gen game so can't comment on graphical power etc at all.

Can't be bothered with next gen at the moment, there's no new games on PS5 that i want, the console itself is almost impossible to get hold of, and it's all really expensive.

I normally wait at least a year after launch these days anyhow, but this time it may be longer assuming the likes of Assassins Creed don't make the jump to being PS5 exclusive straight away.

I'm also always keeping an eye out, just in case there's a PS5 Cities Skylines 2 in the pipeline at some point.

Also, the raytracing in Watch Dogs Legion makes it look very pretty, especially when it's been raining. Given that it's basically pasted onto a last-gen game, I'm looking forward to seeing what can be done in future games.

Ray tracing isn’t that impressive if you are playing a fast paced game like Miles Morales.

You notice it when you are standing still (reflection on the shiny suits) or climbing near a window.

Waste of time for me at the minute. I’d only be getting one to play Destiny at 4k-60fps, and/or playing the short Spider-Man spin-off. Trying to procure either still a complete joke. Ridic disappoint so far.

Thus far the 'new gen' is the equivalent of the new iphone having a better screen and battery. I'm opting out until we start seeing regular, non-cross gen exclusives. Late 2022 I reckon.

I was lucky enough to get a PS5 on launch day and am as pleased now as I was back in November. From the exclusives (ignoring PS4 or PC availability) - Astrobot, Sackboy, Miles Morales & Demon's Souls - to a couple of PS+ freebies (Bugsnax & Control: Ultimate Edition) that I've played and platinumed (well, not Demon's Souls :) ) I've been really impressed. Throw in the PS5 versions of titles like Assassins Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Watch Dogs Legions and I've more than got my money's worth from the system in the past five months. On top of that, I've played through the 60FPS upgraded versions of Ghost of Tshushima and Ratchet & Clank.

Could I have played a lot/most of those on the PS4 Pro I had? Yes. But they have played/run better, looked in some cases for more impressive and have loaded quicker - and without the background noise of a console about to take off and go into orbit into the background.

Basically, I'm more than happy that I got one. And, having got more than £350 back after trading in my PS4 Pro & PSVR, it didn't cost me that much either.

I wish my PS5 had more new gen games to play, but that was pretty much a known quantity going into the gen. Other than that, I'm loving the gen so far.

Highlight has to be how skin crawlingly decrepit/epic Demon's Souls looked.

I'm pretty sure work is well underway for Cities: Skylines 2 as they've finished making dlc for Skylines now.
It should hopefully be next gen only which will give the game much more power to deal with mass traffic and stuff.

I have a feeling we may hear something about it at E3 this year.

PS5 had a great launch for me, with Demon's Souls, Astrobot and Miles. It's turned a bit into the ultimate PS4 now though. Looking forward to getting some real next gen games in the near future.

I love my PS5, I overpaid for it and don’t regret it at all, it has reignited my love for games, it’s sounds boring but a main factor has been the install times, load times and the general speed of the machine like on start up,

I had a PS4 but hardly never played it because it sounded like a 747 taking off and the Xbox One X took ages to install new games and seemed to need updating every time I switched it on

For me the ps5 is the only truly next gen machine, however maybe there is a case for microsofts attitude towards bc and its being a next gen feature. I have been replaying a lot of older games like oblivion and gta 4, but only because microsoft have got them running better. They are almost like new games. Gaming isn’t just about the future, it is about the past too, because there have been so many great games in the past. To get the chance to play forza 4, or halo in 4k/ 60fps is just amazing.

With game pass being a subscription based service, we will only see more gaas games or ones with heavy dlc to make up the lost revenue.

Playstation will be the only place to play truly next gen single player games with a next gen controller, but sometimes you want a quick pick up and play game or to go through a large back catalogue and replay a great.

I haven't got a next gen console yet, and I probably won't be for a long time.

I think he’s trying to redress the guilt he feels for enjoying the Series X.

No, just giving a balanced view. PS5 is the only one that feels Next Gen, but the Series X is great and I play it more at the moment.

Microsoft have made a huge investment in development studios. They are going to have a wealth of first party exclusives to compete with Sony this generation.

Although I agree they haven't really got going yet, it is definitely coming.
