Those marked in red are down from the previous year, those in green are up. Both GamesTM & Play are on a yearly audit. For whatever reason both PC Gamer & PC Zone haven't been updated, despite having the same 6 month audit as the others.

Official Xbox 360 Magazine: 67,097 (previously 66,894)
Xbox World 360: 29,135 (previously 31,698)
360: 13,007 (previously 13,364)
360 Gamer: 16,007 (previously 13,928)
X360: 30,203 (previously 32,705)
PlayStation Official Magazine: 51,533 (previously 46,018)
Play: 24,007 (01-Jan-2007 to 31-Dec-2007)
PSM3: 31,235 (previously 26,885)
PSW: 22,903 (previously 21,826)
Nintendo Official Magazine: 61,159 (previously 58,754)
NGamer: 20,290 (previously 17,048)
EDGE: 30,164 (previously 31,304)
Games TM: 22,284 (01-Jan-2007 to 31-Dec-2007)
GamesMaster: 45,691 (previously 51,389)
PC Gamer: 38,654 (01-Jul-2007 to 31-Dec-2007)
PC Zone: 22,297 (01-Jul-2007 to 31-Dec-2007)

The Official Magazines leading the pack as usual. On the PlayStation & PC front, sales are in line with the quality of each mag. OPM leads, with PSM3 in second, Play third & PSW dragging its sorry arse across the line in last place. PC Gamer leads quite considerably over PC Zone. The discrepancy between ONM & NGamer is quite unbelievable. Price may have something to do with it, as ONM is cheaper & comes with regular free gifts. GamesMaster needs a total overhaul on all fronts, from production all the way through to design. It's not 1997.

The other thing is that the word 'official' simply makes those mags more attractive to some people. And the simple fact that they're official often affords them better freebies, too.

It'd be interesting to see what would happen if all mags were priced the same and forced to come without free gifts.

Can't believe mags like PLAY: sell at all, they're absolutely attrocious!

Apart from EDGE, GamesTM, PC Gamer and the 3 official mags, there's no need for any of these to be on the shelves!

Only 20,000 for NGamer! Shocking its the only games mag I buy each month now, with the odd issue of Edge now and again if something inside takes my fancy, I hope Future dont decide to close them down, though I wouldn't put it past them ;)

Well, it's on the rise, so I'd be surprised if it was cut down while it's doing better than before.

I want to know why NGamer & PC Zone both have a subscription, & Xbox World doesn't.

Of course, Xbox World had its sub axed alongside PSW. With OPS2 no longer around, you'd think there'd be a 'space'.

Just an update; according to Future's latest press release NGamer is the UK’s Bestselling Independent Nintendo Magazine which means NRevolution must be doing terrible numbers.

Don't you write for N, HOC?

Quite.

As an aside, I might be cancelling my subs to NGamer come next renewal. I've been reading it since N64 issue 2, but now without my Wii I think it could be money better spent elsewhere...

I'll be sad to see it go from my doormat each month. :(

Not any more. I do write for ONM, though, and I have written for NGamer in the past.

I hope NGamer remains strong, sales-wise. It was rather successful back in the N64 Magazine days. I always wondered why its sales went down during the transition from N64 to GameCube while the official magazine didn't suffer any noticeable decrease in sales and remained strong.

Maybe I should pick ONM and NRevolution up to see what's on offer. I haven't read the latter at all.

NRevolution's now very much aimed at the younger market after initially being targeted at older Nintendo players when it first started.

That's really upsetting. Early issues looked -- at least, based on mere glances -- fairly good. Edit: It would have been nice to have consistency.

Do you have any leaning towards any of the Nintendo magazines? From the perspective of a fairly mature reader, does any magazine make itself more worthy of a purchase than the others?

It was. Current and former gamesTM editors Rick Porter and Martin Mathers were involved. They used to have interesting features, their reviews didn't sugar-coat things (I believe Wario Ware got just 7.3) and it was really nicely designed and well-produced. They also used to go for a beer and a chinwag with someone from the industry each month, which was a little different from your average interview.

I'll always have a soft spot for NGamer because I used to read NGC religiously, and it's definitely the funniest of the three. But ONM's design is far more suited to a mature reader, it's cheaper, and feels more like a premium product.

Interesting.. presume figures are per month?

Not sure how some of these magazines are surviving only selling 20 - 30,000 copies per month with staff costs, overheads, print costs etc to factor in.

You'd be surprised. Advertisers are happy to spend big on specialist mags because it's a captive audience.

And more are recruiting permanent staff rather than using freelancers these days, which saves money.

Edge and Games TM have a lot of industry advertising that makes up for the figures, hope Games TM picks up as it has improved beyond all recognition in the last 12 months.

You a fan of the new look then, Rik? I wasn't sure at first, but I do think it looks more polished and mature now. The design work on some of the features is superb, too.
