I think this looks amazing. A lot of depth to it in terms of tactical options. I hope it can get a decent community. That's the problem with Splinter Cell multi in wiiu. Cool mode, but no one to play with.

"We definitely want it to be something people can play even if they cant connect to the internet."

Planning on a single player mode and one on one local play including Pro Controller support.

Miyamoto on the project:

The team that’s designing Splatoon is actually taken from the core Animal Crossing team, so some of the younger staff within the Animal Crossing team, we pulled about 10 of them together and we decided to begin working on Splatoon with that small team.

We’ve also then added the director who did the StarFox 64 3D remake for Nintendo 3DS, and then one of the directors who worked on NintendoLand. They’re all very young team members for us, so they’re very energetic. They’ve been working on music and the design and everything for Splatoon.

It’s allowing me to not be heavily involved in the project — they’re able to work on their own. But the overall design is taking a very Nintendo approach, where it’s very gameplay-focused. We designed the gameplay and the features of the game first, and the characters themselves were born out of those features.

On working with younger people:

It’s challenging if you bring in people who love Nintendo too much, because they tend to overthink things and have very specific opinions, and they tend to lack a little in objectivity. So we seem to hire a mix of people and some are people who love Nintendo and some are people who kind of think more ironically at Nintendo. It’s partially my job to kind of help them all drift more towards the middle.

Good on Nintendo for bringing in their younger team members. I'd really like to see more of what these guys can devise down the line, because they seem to have wonderful potential. :)

Splatoon Gameplay - Gamescom

http://uk.ign.com/videos/2014/08/17/spl ... ium=social

Really has a lot of potential, such a lovely style. Just hope they expand upon the initial idea though, could get repetitive in its current state.

Maybe they'll add some items ala Mario Kart/Smash.

It's interesting, but to me at the moment it looks like a 10/15 pound eshop title. Would like to see a lot more of the game.

this strawberry floating game man.

I think they must've got the woman who composed Jet Set onboard as she really wanted to work on this game and that trailer music. THAT MUSIC DAMN.

Single player mode looks like Mario Galaxy with guns. I love it.

The paint gun/aiming and travelling through the paint ideas are so Mario Sunshine, it's untrue. I always thought the FLUDD was fantastic (despite it being a very divisive mechanic) so I'm glad that this element has been put to use elsewhere.

I'm definitely getting this when I eventually get a WiiU.

The music's amazing.

Well it couldn't have been the composer for JSR because he was a man, but I have a strange feeling it was one of the women from Cibo Matto who did a song or songs for Jet Set Radio Future

Some new deats from Famitsu

-Working on a local multiplayer mode in addition to online and Hero Mode
-Hero mode is predominantly a 3D platformer with heavy emphasis on human-squid transformations
-Random matching is done world wide, game tries to place you with players close to your skill level based on ratings
-Tried implementing a system whereby you could give orders to your team mates, but battles were too quick and hectic for them to be effective so they got rid of the feature
-Game won't use CPU fighters; only once 8 human players have been found will a match start
-Having multiple modes with random matching would limit the number of players per mode, so all the focus is on the 4 vs. 4 for that
-No communication with players you are matched with
-They didn't think of using Bloopers when they decided on squids (they apparently forgot they existed)
-No money can be earned in Hero Mode. Your points, as displayed at the end of the match, are turned into money and experience points.
-A lot of the music is written by Tooru Minegishi (who has worked on Zelda, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario)

No comms was a given but not sure what to think of no AI online. Don't want any ringers joining teams

No comms for an online game in 2015 :fp: .

I don't mind if it's turned off by default and I have to jump through some hoops to get it working but to just completely leave it out of a game that's looks like it could need teamwork is just stupid.

So it's a team game where you can't give orders to the team and can't talk to them either.
That's going to make for some really well organised teams :fp: .

It would be like saying all footballers must play without talking or making any gestures just in case they accidentally swear or make a rude gesture.

Don't get me wrong I love the look of the game but no comms is just baffling.
