It says right there that it isn't pre-TNG.

It says its not set inbetween Undiscovered Country and TNG.

You could argue that if it was set in the new timeline then it wouldn't be between those two things.

B9 had his memories transplanted.

The "official" cannon comics confirm that he became Data.

Recently decided to finally watch TNG having ignored Star Trek for years (As a kid/teenager I thought it was too nerdy for me) and I can't believe how watchable it is for something made nearly 30 years ago, the effects are a bit naff and some of the 'science' is ridiculous or outdated but it's genuinely good (apart from the awful Dixon Hill/Sherlock Holmes Holodeck episodes).

Also, Deanna Troi was hot as hell (she's probably not now though) and Data is strawberry floating awesome.

I have another 5 seasons to watch so I hope Netflix don't take it away again.

Maybe having more than one main ship/mission would be an idea. DS9 had both the station and the Defiant, and regularly had the cast spread across quadrants advancing several main storylines. That, mixed in with some high level San Francisco stuff that we don't really see in the shows (bar the occasional Skype call), could work quite well. Could have different sorts of objectives for each crew, show off more of the galaxy, and culminate in a sort of Federation civil war scenario with a mix of clashing admirals and clandestine Section 31-ery.

I love it! Especially the San Fran/ section 31 stuff! Quick somebody send this to CBS!

I definitely hope it's more DS9 than TNG in tone at least. One thing that always bothered me was that everyone was BFFs in TNG, while DS9 there were characters with some genuine animosity towards each other. Plus DS9 had a continuous thread running through the whole thing. You can just dip in and out of TNG at any point really without missing anything (There are some obvious exceptions of course). Love them both though. In fact I think I might be due a rewatch of DS9.

Late DS9 anyway.
The early series were some of the dullest TV in all of Sci-fi.

Yeah the couple of seasons are a bit of a slog, but once TNG finished and all those writers moved over. :datass:

So a pre-TOS era show.
I have to admit I'm a little disappointed by that really.

Don't know what to think. Not sure I like the design of the ship, or that it's not an Enterprise... But how have you extrapolated pre-TOS?

I don't care when it's set. As long as it's good, I want it now.

The registration of the Discovery is NCC-1031 and as it's described as a test flight then it would imply the ship is brand new. That's 700 ships earlier than NCC-1701 Enterprise in TOS, and at the time of TOS the Enterprise was already approaching 15 years old.
