After finding out Enterprise ended 10 years ago (WTF!?) I couldn't believe there hadn't been a Star Trek series in production for so long. I hope this has as interesting and likeable characters as DS9.

Part of me hopes they go with the parallel universe set up and have the humans as slaves who are battling for freedom or during the collapse of the human empire after Spock (from our universe) convinced them to stop being ruthless and disarm.

I doubt they will but it could make for a pretty epic series seeing a mighty human empire fall and be taken over by all the alien races.

Here's hoping that, whatever it is, there'll be a couple of Evil Universe episodes to get stuck into. Also, the Temporal Cold War, let's see some more of that.

Done right, I think it could be an interesting plot thread.

I agree about not having, or at least not relying heavily on, time travel. At most I'd be up for an episode with a Timeship like the USS Relativity.

Time Travel has worked well in Star Trek, but only when it was used as an 'episode of the week' plot device.

They could potentially set it in the 31st Century, when we've seen that the Federation are exploring time as well as space, to observe historical events and preserve the timeline, but I think that'd end up being too much like Doctor Who.

I hate time travel as a plot device in Star Trek, it feels lazy, you have this future with all sorts of planets and alien races and you fall back into the same lets see how they react to Earth in xx

Sure some have been fantastic, Yesterdays Enterprise, and Cause and effect are both time travelly, but done really well. However there are far too many that are just dumb, I am thinking about the DS9 Roswell and Bell riots ones, I had already given up with Enterprise before it started it's dalliance with time travel but I doubt it was good. Heck I am not that much a fan of City on the Edge of forever, I think the main reason it gets so much love is just because Joan Collins is in it.

I am not going to lie, I did love Voyage Home, so my argument fall apart there

All Good Things is probably the best example of Star Trek time travel done right.
Or just Star Trek in general really.

“Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller has found his next mission: showrunner and co-creator of CBS’ new “Star Trek” series.

He’ll serve as executive producer alongside Alex Kurtzman on the reboot of the sci-fi classic, Variety has learned.

It's good they have somebody with some Star Trek pedigree as the showrunner.

No, Fuller, you're not done with Hannibal yet. Get back to that.

Needs to be slow and plodding like TNG.

Action movie crap is fine for the movies but a Star Trek show needs great writing above all else.

Yep, a good Star Trek series needs good characters and stories with depth.
They can have big dramatic space battles now and then but that mustn't be the point of the show. As much as I loved Battlestar Galactica Trek shouldn't go for the same dark and boombastic style.

Slow & plodding and great writing is Fuller's MO. I wouldn't have any worry about this.

On 2 March 2009 Fuller told iF Magazine that he is pushing for a new Star Trek TV series based on "old style" Star Trek. In the interview he stated that "I told my agent and told the people of J.J. Abrams' team I want to create another Star Trek series and have an idea that I'm kicking around. I would love to return to the spirit of the old series with the colors and attitude. I loved Voyager and Deep Space Nine, but they seem to have lost the '60s fun and I would love to take it back to its origin."

I just hope this is shown in the UK on the BBC or Amazon Prime.
