Last episode was kind of mediocre.

If it makes you feel any better, I was pretty baffled & irritated at how lightly-defended Earth was -- I felt even after the loss of Starbase 1 it should have been tough for Klingon raiders to get past the Mars Defense Perimeter.

I feel like I'm engaging in this completely tangentially to you though. I basically like episodes that remind me of TNG and dislike episodes that don't. TNG often had wonky scriptwriting so that part doesn't bother me so much. ;)

Yeah I would have felt better about it had they shown a load of defences near earth and the Klingons just approaching them rather than what appeared to be hundreds of satellites or something near earth,

I'm not sure Earth had had any major wars up to that point so it's possible that they didn't expect the need for massed defences.

I'm struggling to remember if the Xindi war was retconned or not as they didn't face much resistance at Earth either.

Alex Kurtzman To Shepherd ‘Star Trek’ Franchise Expansion Under New 5-Year Overall Deal With CBS TV Studios

The Star Trek TV franchise is expanding. Under a big five-year eight-figure new overall deal with CBS TV Studios, Star Trek: Discovery co-creator/executive producer Alex Kurtzman will oversee the development of new Star Trek series, mini-series and other content, including animation.

There are no specifics about any of the projects at the moment though there is talk that one of the first shows would be an eight-episode limited series spinoff. Kurtzman and Co. may reveal some details at the upcoming Comic-Com convention. Production on season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery is underway with Kurtzman, who directed the premiere episode, as sole showrunner. He recently replaced Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts at the helm.

CBS Television Studios declined to confirm any specific projects, but we hear there are three different Trek concepts currently in development.

I'd be up for another Star Trek cartoon. The last one was a great continuation of TOS.

Also best Captain rumoured to be returning.

The new deal comes as rumblings about another Star Trek series, featuring Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, have been heating up. Sources say Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman, who left Discovery after season one, are attached to the Stewart-led reboot. CBS TV Studios declined to confirm the Stewart project as sources say a deal is far from completed and may not happen despite the fact that the actor recently teased his potential return to the franchise.

Holy gooseberry fool, I would do immoral things for a new series with Picard and chums.

I wonder if we can get the government to ditch this idea of using the Brucey Brexit bonus on the NHS and buy this for the BBC instead?
People can go without surgery for a few years as they'll all be so gripped by watching this.

Does that make me a bad person :shifty: .

Nah man. The needs of the many (trekkies) outweigh the needs of the few (ill people).

Star Trek should be added to the list of things that are only allowed on free to air TV.
Screw Wimbledon, this is more important.

I remember years ago when Star Trek was on BBC2 at 6pm every night that they'd always cancel it when Wimbledon was on just to show the strawberry floating Tennis or Snooker or Darts or some other sporty shite.

And then they went and gave Enterprise to channel 4

That was my first experience of Star Trek with advert breaks. Still, not as bad as in America where they literally cut to an ad break the second the opening credits are finished.

When it came to Enterprise I generally got episodes from an Enterprise irc group where we'd all watch and discuss. I still have the first 2 episodes on VHS though.

Trailer for season 2

It looks good, but the music for the trailer is a strawberry floating awful choice that someone deserves to be fired from the entire industry for,

The Star Trek universe is expanding. During Star Trek: Discovery’s Hall H appearance today at San Diego Comic-Con, series’ co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman announced Star Trek: Short Treks, a four-episode spinoff series of shorts that will roll out monthly beginning in December to tie Trekkies over until Discovery‘s Season 2 premiere in January.

Each short will consist of a stand-alone story, each running 10-15 minutes
, serving as an opportunity for deeper storytelling and exploration of key characters and themes that fit into Star Trek: Discovery and the expanding Star Trek universe, according to producers.

Star Trek: Discovery‘s Rainn Wilson will return to play Harry Mudd in a short he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship. Additional episodes include a deep dive into Saru’s (Doug Jones) backstory as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, and Tilly’s (Mary Wiseman) journey aboard the U.S.S. Discovery and her friendship with an unlikely partner.

Hopefully they turn up on Netflix.
