Yeah but Star Trek hasn't had any prominent and non-evil mirror universe Gaybos before.

"Where no Man has gone before" and all that.

(Or hopefully it'll be X-rated and "Where so many Men have gone before")

It's only just pre-TOS though, 10 years. The actual starship Enterprise might even make an appearance since it was around at that time, just not captained by Kirk.

I get that, but I would like them to progress the universe rather than just constantly rewriting it

1 of the reasons they're talking about diversity so much is that CBS have been criticized for all their new shows later this year having white male leads.

Same here. Prequels are just far less interesting to me, I want them to push on and explore more. Boldly go and all that.

Ah ok that makes sense. Star Trek for me has always been on of those shows that tackles social justice and morality almost perfectly so I hope they manage to keep the balance right so that it doesn't feel like it's been written by a committee and is too preachy. Most important for me is a cast that actually have chemistry. I never felt Voyager and Enterprise really nailed that, and neither did DS9 in my opinion, to some extent.

Star Trek crossed over into full liberal SJW progressive mode as soon as they got Kirk and Uhura to kiss and started ramming such "PC" nonsense down our throats.

Actually makes a lot of sense not to have the captain as the lead character this time around. I always thought it was dumb that the other shows kept finding excuses to send their highest ranking officer on dangerous away missions; which is doubly dumb as it also takes the captain out of the position of being in command on the ship (which is their actual job) without reason.

I assume this can be a general Trek thread in between news snippets. I'm watching TNG season 3 at the moment as I've never gone through in order before. It's absolutely incredible. I dragged my wife through the plodding of the first two seasons and she bailed, but now it's just totally clicked...

I've always wondered where exactly Marina Sirtis was from. I thought she was Turkish or Israeli, but it turns out she's from Harringay. This picture is on her Wikipedia page:

I'm currently working my way through TNG at the moment having only seen the odd episode here and there, just started S4 and the quality has improved dramatically since the end of S3.

I'm a big fan of TNG and just recently started watching Voyager and I'm about 10 episodes into the first series and there's just something not likeable about the characters and the show feels like a 1.5 version. I'm hoping as most series do if I invest the time it'll get better as it goes on but I'm struggling to get through episodes at the moment, they feel like 2 hours.

Voyager gets better but it's very rarely actually good. It's probably the weakest Star Trek overall, though Enterprise gives it close competition.

I never really got into Deep Space Nine, but once it hits its stride it's supposed to be at least as good as TNG, so maybe try that instead?

Pretty much every series of modern Star Trek, the first 1 or 2 seasons are exceptionally hit and miss while the show finds its feet. TNG, DS9 and Voyager all had that issue, though I felt DS9 took a season longer than the others to actually settle, it wasn't until season 4 it actually started getting really good.

A lot of the issue is that the core Trek writers tended to be on whatever show had been running the longest. So once TNG finished a lot moved to DS9, then to Voyager.

Voyager is good, but it's rarely anything more than that and it has some characters that just never really work very well. Some of the early episodes are quite poor though.

For me once DS9 gets going, so pretty much from Season 4 onwards, it's probably my favourite out of the three.

I was never able to really get into Enterprise. The most I managed was about 4/5 episodes and I wasn't a fan. I'll probably get through them at some point though.

Enterprise is unfairly underrated a lot of the time in my opinion. It has some bad episodes yes, but there's plenty there to like as well, even in the first two seasons.

I couldn't make it through the title sequence of Enterprise.

Same here I think I did about 3 episodes of Enterprise and found it a waste of time. The whole concept of being in space but without the technology of even the TOS era hopelessly hamstrung it.

The title sequence was abysmal and they had that weird deal where they didn't call it Star Trek until about season 3 didn't they?

Plus the "temporal cold war" just seemed stupid.
