I agree with this entirely. Everything is SUPER SRS BSNSS all the time and is constantly escalating towards more and more drama which is ultimately boring. I have no idea what the names of the two crew at the helm are, let alone who they are as characters, and its been two seasons. Secondary characters only seem to get fleshed out when they're about to die, making their deaths uninteresting and without impact as we have no reason to care about them.

I have run out of patience for Michael looking distraught all the goddamn time and how of course all of these major plot elements revolve around her. What made the Borg threatening was that they were just there, a totally alien threat that had to be dealt with. The political intrigue and nuance of the Romulans, Klingons and Cardassians was interesting and had multiple layers/shades of good and bad.

Glad to hear this is still gooseberry fool - I gave up when that doctor dude got revived, and I was skipping the scenes with Micheal (which was like 3/4 of the episodes).
The Orville just makes it so much worse, as that is so good.

I'm still very much enjoying the series, even if it does go too far in its earnestness sometimes. The central plot is well spun and yeah, I like the characters.

It may not be to everyone's taste but it's rather objectives not gooseberry fool I think.

I liked the twist at the end, but I think it took too long to get there.

I've just caught up on the last two episodes and they were dire. The funeral for the robot woman was ridiculously overdone, she had barely had any screen time at all until that episode and we were somehow supposed to feel emotional attachment? They gave her a bigger send off than Tasha Yar for strawberry floats sake!

Tilly has now gone beyond annoying, and that really irritating thing where they have some technobabble and then have to state a brain dead explanation for it every single time is just really grating.

Some of the dialogue in this is worse than anything George Lucas could come up with.

Funeral episode was weak to be honest. Topsy-turving pacing and some really stilted character interactions.

So we're all very clear that Control is going to grow up to be the Borg Queen, right?

Similarities include

- Leland wears black leather, same as the Borg used to.
- Control initially implanted itself in him with nannites via a needle, in much the same way as the Borg implant people in TNG and onwards
- Leland's skin kept becoming veiny and translucent with control inside him, the same as the Borg
- When he was fighting Empress Georgiou, he used a pretty Borg-esque fighting style, and when he was shot with phasers it basically didn't affect him.
- When the hologram Control was speaking to Leland, it actually said "Struggle is pointless," which is very clearly going to wind up being "Resistance is futile" pretty shortly.

So yeah, definitely right. No strawberry floating idea how they're gonna go about reconciling that to canon.

Well, there is a series of books, Destiny. The Borg are the descendants of the race called the Caeliar who return and again merge with the Borg but as a book series it's not considered true cannon even though it's a Star Trek novel.

I don't know how I didn't see this before, but yep, definitely right.

Fwiw, I'm still really enjoying the new series, daftness and all.

I watched the episode that was set on Saru's planet last night. That was better. Some really good special effects as well.

Yeah, I spotted these signs as well, and also the need to consume enough civilisations' combined knowledge which is a pretty Borg thing itself, and it kind of annoyed my inner Trek nerd. Despite the evidence I'm still hoping ( ) it's just an allusion rather than an actual set-up because obviously it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

So...how did The Red Angel get all that info in future?

I would hope they can explain that more deeply as it should only take a few short sentences.

Just a quick read through her logs about how she did gain the info would do.
