Let's see how long we last. I have this feeing that some people (probably myself) will nearly have spent their annual budget within the first half of the year!

That is a good idea.

I will set up £500 as my limit and that includes downloads. I will put 10,000 points on my LIve account and that should be enough for the year.

I just bought World of Goo and Trials 2 for a combined total of £14 and I can't get past the third training level of trials 2  .

You think? What if Sega start putting their back catalogue onto live, OutRun Arcade and ChuChu Rocket may only be the start.

I'm going to limit myself to £50 for January, Race Pro and a few downloadable games, don't think there is anything else.

This thread is starting to sound like the old married men's club! However, I do applaud the objective of people in trying to exercise some restraint and not paying top dollar for day one releases, trying to get more value out of games etc

Therefore, I'm "in the club" and happy to use £300 as a benchmark but this will include all DLC so Singstar is going to take a significant proportion of my cash. I also think we should add in the value of any trades.

So day 2, current funds still sit at £300.

Keep at Trials, it does get easier (by which I mean you get used to the difficulty and controls, it actually gets harder).

You might want to start the Easy levels as soon as you can.

SEGA have put virtually nothing on XBLA in three years so I wouldn't think they would release over 10,000 points worth up in one year. Unless Virtua Fighter 5 R comes out

Put me down for £500.
I kinda feel like I'm cheating a bit - I bought an absolute boatload of games to play and a new console just before Christmas.

I've spent £40 today. :|

Still, I'm saving £60 so may as well be thankful for that in future when I got decent gaming PC.

EDIT: Uh, add £18.99 to that. I've bought ID Super Pack today, I'm sucker for ID/FPS games. :|

My new 40" Sony Bravia arrived this morning. Suppose I should start the year as I mean to go on... :fp:

I spent at least £130 today.

Left 4 Dead - £39.99 (360)
Kung Fu Panda/Lego Indiana Jones - £4.99 (Bundle Game - Preowned 360)
Dead Space - £27.99 (360)
Animal Crossing - £39.99 (Wii)
Shrek The Third - £14.99 (Preowned - 360)
Rechargable Battery - £7.99 (360)

BUT! I got rid all of my back catalogue of PS1, PS2, GameCube, and Wii games... which result in a £140 credit trade in. I had a clearout yesterday, looking at my favourite games that I will never play again.

I've still got my rare copies of Suikoden 1, Suikoden 2, Front Mission 3 for the PS1... Probably will bung that on E-Bay. Unless anyone's interested? Remember that they're uber rare and wouldn't sell them for cheap. (Not a good idea to put this up in this thread then? :shifty:  )

But I still refuse to let go Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX, and the GC version of Skies of Arcadia. They're too priceless for me and I'll be buggered if I trade them in for £3 each!

My games collection is looking pathetic smaller than before but I'm pleased that I took the purge to get rid of them.

So I'm still on £300. :D

Skate 2, Killzone 2 & Resi 5 will no doubt damage mine, last year I only bought one game in the first six months; Burnout Paradise!

Well I spent £90 the other day on Wii games and picked up Ratchet & Clank QFB on BluRay for £15 today so I've only spent £105 so far this year

Thing is, games like Fable 2, Fallout 3, Banjo N&B etc etc all plummeted in price soon after they were released because they were released in time for Christmas. If you remember last year, Call of Duty 4 was £19.99 at a couple of places, and ever since it's been stuck back at £40.

Good luck with the resolutions though peeps! I think I will try a slimmed down version in that I won't just pre-order whatever with £5 vouchers and kid myself that I'm saving money, but I will buy 'essential' titles on day 1 still (Halo 3 ODST, GTA IV DLC etc).

 Nice one

I'll be very impressed if we all manage it. I can't see me doing it but i'm going to try.

Col: your idea of putting people and their budgets in the first post is a brilliant one.

Might just make us think twice about how much we are spendind throughout the year too.

I think I need mine to be just my budget, as i reckon i'll go past it is i include my sons stuff too (which he saves up for).

I reckon £400 for me but i'll try to hit £300.

I've just work out that since Mid December (pay day), i have only spent about £40, on Pop for 360 and Disgaea for PSP. Good start. Nothing in 2009 at all.

That and many others. I'm a sucker for the hype and then getting excited be early reactions. I must remind myself thatit tends to be the hardcore genre/platform fans giving those reactions each time. Waiting a month allows you to see what the more moderate gamer thinks whilst also allowing the price to drop.

will i stick to it? who knows but it's a great idea
