- Two Scarlett devices announced this E3: Lockhart and Anaconda
- Lockhart = entry level device, no disc drive, digital focused machine
- Anaconda = high end device, price similar to Xbox One X's launch price
- Xbox should announce a disc drive less Xbox One in the coming months
- Launch fall 2020
- For the specs sheet, they say that this is what was rumored to be but can only confirm the presence of SSDs on both machines. They're NOT confirming the full sheet.
- Halo Infinite is a launch crossgen game
- Ninja Theory's game is slated for early 2020

Shame to hear the cheaper version will be disc-drive-less, I was hoping these consoles would increase the market for Ultra HD Blu-ray

I expect PS5 and Anaconda to come with them built in.

It'll be interesting to see just what the power gap is between the base version and the Pro as surely it will need to be a fair bit to make sure it isn't seen as pointless.

Apparently PS5 and both Xbox Next's will share the same CPU but with big differences between GPU.

Xbox Scarlett (6 TFOPS) will be the weakest/cheapest of the bunch but will struggle to output 4K for next gen games.

PS5 (8/10 TFOPS) will be a "Goldilocks" middle-aged under system outputting next-gen games at 4K.

Xbox Anaconda (12 TFLOPS) will be an expensive beast capable of playing next gen games in 4K with the addition of basic ray tracing.

I think both Microsoft and Sony will nail it when it comes to well designed and balanced next-gen systems.

I wonder how small they can make the diskless Xbox Next?
Without it it should require less power and with a newer and smaller chipset should need less cooling so could they make a machine smaller than something like Wii U? I'm thinking being Wii sized would be a bit much but I think they will be able to make it significantly smaller than the pro model so it's going to be interesting to see how they design it so they both look like the same system.

By Pro model I just meant the rumoured more expensive version of the next xbox.
I'm assuming that if they are 6tf and 12 tf that leap in power and no added disk drive will mean they need less room for the lower power version and I always find it interesting from a purely technical viewpoint how small they can make consoles.
The Wii was a classic case of the console being impressively small.

The rumours of the more powerful Xbox being same price as X1X is rather pleasing tbh. Also, in November of 2020 our mortgage provider is giving us a few thousand euro so it'll make the purchase more manageable.

For MS from Restera insider Benji -

To be clear this isnt leaking stuff. I am not aware of a planned PS5 reveal event for this year.

However there are going to be some major things happening this year that I would be stunned if Sony waited it out.

If people are mad at Sonys silence now they will be furious by the end of the year considering what's on the horizon

Forum member -

Sounds like Phil wasn't lying when he said they're going big this year lol.

Benji -

Phil basically always foreshadows all of MS moves openly

Important to always pay close attention to what he says.

I am basing it off inside knowledge around other things than the PS5 itself being revealed

For Sony & MS from Jason Schreier at Kotaku -

Look, as I've been saying since roughly March 2018 (in this very thread), next-gen is coming in 2020. That Semiaccurate article saying 2018 (lol) got people's hopes up for 2019, but by now I hope it's clear that the PS5 ain't coming out this fall.

And, despite all the rumors about devkits being out (usually from rumormongers who are wrong more often than not), the number of people briefed on next-gen is still very limited. Even within companies like, say, DICE, there'll be a small team of engineers who now have a rough idea of specs, and everyone else will know when they need to know. Not a lot of devs are disclosed on next-gen right now.

In other words, don't expect much in the way of substantial leakage just yet. The only thing to know for sure is that both Sony and Microsoft are aiming higher than that "10.7 teraflops" number that Google threw out last week. (And, as has been reported, Microsoft's got a few things in the works.)

Phil Harrison told Polygon that they'd been working on Stadia for years, then last December they had the Google Project Stream test of Assassin's Creed Odyssey to test wide scale streaming. It will be approximately 9months - 1 year after the test that Stadia is launched. On Inside Xbox Microsoft said there will be public testing of their cloud technology xCloud 'later this year' so I suspect that the streaming won't be ready until next year. Of course it is possible that they launch a new boxed console in 2019, but that's unlikely without a bunch of new games to differentiate it from the Xbox One X. This year seems too early and if Jason Schreier, the guy who breaks many gaming stories, thinks it's 2020 then it reconfirms my view that it's not 2019.

No need for Sony to release, or even announce PS5 this year, they wouldn't want to ruin another potentially huge winter for PS4 sales.

I really have no idea why MS and Phil Spencer are already being so vocal on next-gen considering it may be 20 months away.

Rumours are that the bigger of the reveals will be Xcloud based.

I predict trials later this year and that all gamepass games will be on it and it will be free for gamepass subscribers Launching 2020.

I just hope if Microsoft do announce at E3 for release next Christmas we don't see a load of "Target render" type video's as those are pretty pointless now as I don't think anyone trusts them any more. Until we can see actual game footage from games working as they would on the machines people have rather than just a shell game working on what could just be £2,00k PC's I don't think there's much point in them showing anything.

Can't see MS revealing their next gen specifications over a year out from release, they could reveal the SKU's and mention ray tracing capability but not actual specs.

They are really talking up this E3 though, more than ever.

The 'dream' would be a couple of Nintendo games coming to Xbox but that'll never happen.

It'll be interesting to look back on the videos from 2013 and see how the actual games stacked up.

From what I recall most have, though one of the Square ones wasn't accurate at all.

More chats from Resetera.

Random Resetera member -

If anything, it looks like Sony is confident their hardware is more powerful. They announced PS4 first in 2013, months before MS did, and we know how that turned out. This race is getting exciting.

Xbox leaker Klobrille -
No

Klobrille sends proof to Resetera Mod Nibel -

To add transparency, I've sent proof as to why I know Anaconda aims to be the the (wording suggests clearly) better performing device to Nibel. He can decide the rest.

Nibel -

Klobrille just sent me something that I can't elaborate on for security reasons, but it does appear to be legit to the best of my knowledge.

----------------------------------

Another Xbox leaker hmqgg -

Anaconda, the flagship in the market, titled "Best Performance".

Random Resetera member -

Best performance as more powerful or * Balanced*

hmqgg -

More powerful.

Scorpio and Anaconda specs will be either side of the base PS5 and will be priced accordingly.

More from MS leaker hmqgg -

The secret sauce that makes PS5 loading speed "faster than gaming PC" is GPU Decompression.

Which have been implemented in Scarlett (I mean, both SKUs).

What is GPU Decompression?

GPU fits better with parallel jobs, and decompression (to decompress game assets or sth...) is easy to be parallelized.

GPU Decompression is much faster than CPU, about 20+x.

And consoles are lucky to be Unified Memory platform, which reduces the cost of "copying" game assets to VRAM (and more).

AFAIK, next gen architectures won't be much different from current gen.

From all-formats leaker Benji

I wont detail the specific rumor I heard. Because it's so outlandish I'm not sure I actually believe it myself.

All I'll say about it is that things might not be so similar in terms of architecture between PS5 and what the next Xbox is doing as everyone assumes. But again, not sure how legitimate this is so I would take with a huge grain of salt

I'm glad to see both companies are really going for it next gen with what seems like decent upgrades.
I don't even mind the idea of a low power version for 1080p screen users as plenty of people just don't need 4k as they use the console in a small room so it makes perfect sense to me.

I'm playing Metro Exodus on One X at the moment and that looks great so if all games are as good looking as that as a baseline I'll be more than happy  .

I wonder if the reason they haven't announced the rumoured Elite controller 2 is that it'll be an Xbox 2 thing?

I think all I want from a next gen xbox controller is better build quality and maybe steal the speaker idea from the PS4 pad as I like that.
