Is this fanboy still going, I thought he'd left the industry?
-I looked at his Insta and does some great paintings.

I expect a full spec reveal at E3.
The leaks are interesting but until we get concrete info from Sony and Microsoft I take all of them with a giant pinch of salt.

I do think there will be some solid info but if this is coming out late 2020 then I doubt a full reveal because there will be too long a gap. Nintendo revealed the Wii U in June 2011, didn't release it until November 2012 - that's a long wait for customers and it would mean Microsoft's competitors can adjust their products.

I'm not so sure, I think they might push the X for one more year.

Never buy launch consoles. Try to remember that.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Interesting article :D .

I'm glad it seems both Microsoft and Sony seem to be putting in more effort this time than the PS4 and Xbox One era machines and we're going to get a hefty increase in power.
I'm wondering when we'll see first glimpses of games being played on the new systems as while I'd love footage now I'm also old enough to remember "Target footage" and just how pointless that is.
I hope for a reveal of specs and maybe a glimpse at the hardware at E3 with a few announcements about launch titles but no footage to save the developers from spending time slapping something together now. Then maybe just after the Christmas games rush they can start showing why we should all upgrade with footage from games that are a bit nearer ready.

I'm hoping we see first glimpses of next-gen games at E3, likely they'll be third party games with unannounced platforms.

I'd hope that they're now at a point where they'll never use CGI target footage again. It's fine to show alpha footage on reference hardware but nothing like the full CGI video that was Killzone 2 for example.

Edited to say Killzone 2 instead of Killzone 3.

We're still to this day seeing CGI videos for game unveils. Where as previously it was obvious now it's difficult to tell.

I don't think we are, unless I've missed something? Nothing that claims to be gameplay or even targetting gameplay.

If they start popping up with footage that's similar to the Star Wars Ray Tracing demo and claiming it's actual next gen footage then I think we'll all have the right to call bullshit on that simply because the rig they used for the Star Wars demo was flippin monstrous.

I'm actually more interested in the upgrade for physics, AI (both in terms of what they do and the sheer number of characters on screen with full AI routines) and open worlds just feeling more alive.
Imagine Skyrim with more people milling about who have much better AI and who react much more to what's going on. The game world was already pretty big and the graphics don't need to be ultra photo realistic as it's a fantasy game anyway.

Precisely the reason why I'm thinking we won't see a GTA VI on the current generation. A much better physics engine, police AI that scale properly to the amount of stars you have [rather than just chucking more cops at you], and a massive increase in general AI behavior.

There's rumours that Battlefield: Bad Company 3 will be a next gen only launch title and that series could see quite an upgrade with extra physics and better destruction.
Maybe a return of something like levelution but more organic and not just in the same place every time.

I'd expect it to be cross gen to maximise sales. As long as it's set in the 80s I don't care.

I do think most games will be cross gen for the first 3 years or so as this gen has a combined 100m or so sales so it's a huge market to miss out on.

I just hope the current gen versions don't impact the next gen versions and they're able to fully utilise the extra horsepower.
Maybe some exclusives will be next gen only and there's rumours of Battlefield Bad Company 3 being next gen only but I feel next gen only will be few and far between for a while.

It's difficult to tell.

When PS4 and XBO launched neither were backwards compatible, so publishers needed to ensure there wasn't a complete drop off when people ditched their old consoles for new ones.

PS5 and XB2 will be backwards compatible, so there's 2 choices...

1. Release same game for both current and next-gen systems
2. Release game for current gen with enhanced graphics when played on next-gen systems

I'm looking forward to playing PS4 games on PS5 for the "Pro" enhancements.

- thinks Lockhart is $299-349 and andaconda is 499. Thinks ps5 is probably 399.
- says Lockhart has same cpu as andaconda but less ram and about 1/2 the gpu power.
- says that Lockhart will most likely be marketed as the 1080p option and andaconda the 4K option.
- "This is some out-loud thinking, with some insider info drizzled in there that I have heard over the last few weeks"

It's going to be really interesting to see all this next gen power in the hands of the smaller developers for 2d games or that hand drawn art style that looks so great. It's going to really open up the possibilities for games to look really good even when they don't have a monster budget.
