Despite being a die-hard Titans fan (I can even name 1 of their players, get a load of me) the first piece of NFL paraphernalia I ever got was an Eagles pennant, so I'm happy to see them finally win the big trophy. Suck it Patriots :P

Can anybody recommend any good websites, YouTube channels, podcasts, etc to follow for NFL news? I pretty much exclusively rely on the BBC's two NFL programmes, which are great, but obviously don't run in the off-season and don't cover things in that much detail. I've started to visit reddit's NFL page, especially as there are plenty of stories at the moment, but it often feels like you're walking into the middle of a conversation without knowing the context (or maybe that's just me :slol: ).

I just follow a bunch of people on twitter, thats how I get most of my news. I used to listen to the Around The Horn and Pardon The Interruption podcasts, theyre sports talk shows on ESPN that they make available in podcast form, I dont listen much anymore cos my commute is now much shorter. ESPN is ok for general news stories but they can sometimes disappear up their own ass trying to produce as much content as humanly possible, so you get a lot of mock drafts, power rankings and gooseberry fool like that.

Yeah I do twitter and podcasts too
Not listened to many takes on the Josh McDaniels saga yet, but should be interesting. Not sure why anyone would want to follow Belichick as Head Coach, especially as you most likely wont have a QB.

I do follow NFL and New Orleans Saints on Twitter. They do give a lot of information what’s going on. :)

BBC1, SuperBowl LII Live - 925,000 (22.5% share, 11:15pm to 3:35pm)
Sky Sports Action, SuperBowl LII Live - 84,000
Sky Sports Mix, SuperBowl LII Live - 15,000
Sky Sports Main Event - Unknown

Average: 1,024,000+

I'm guessing a peak of around 2 million, which ain't bad at all. Plus however many watched the highlights and on-demand.

NFL teams will be fined if players kneel for the US national anthem under a new policy.

The American football league said players who do not stand for the Star-Spangled Banner can stay in the locker room until it has been performed.

The NFL also vowed to "impose appropriate discipline on league personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem."

Players said the protests were against policy brutality of African Americans.

"It was unfortunate that on-field protests created a false perception among many that thousands of NFL players were unpatriotic," said NFL Commissioner

Roger Goodell in a statement accompanying Wednesday's new policy.

"This is not and was never the case. This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.

"Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room until after the Anthem has been performed."

All team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem," the first provision of the new policy reads.
Before, NFL players were required to be on the field for the anthem, but there was no firm directive to stand for the anthem.

The policy also includes the provision that individual clubs can develop their own rules - that abide by the new principles - about how to handle personnel who do not wish to stand.

It does not state how much clubs will be fined should their players protest on the field, but gives them the option to fine players for breaking the new rules.

The statement comes a day after NFL teams pledged $90m towards social justice initiatives, under an agreement reached with all 32 teams in the league.

What's the reaction?

The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) issued a statement following the policy announcement saying they were not consulted.

"NFL players have shown their patriotism through their social activism, their community service, in support of our military and law enforcement and yes, through their protests to raise awareness about the issues they care about," the statement reads.

"The vote by NFL club CEOs today contradicts the statements made to our player leadership by Commissioner Roger Goodell and the Chairman of the NFL's Management Council John Mara about the principles, values and patriotism of our League."

The union said it will be reviewing the policy and will challenge aspects that are inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement.

Sounds more like a policy announcement you’d have expected from Vince McMahon imposing in the upcoming XFL.

Why not just get rid of the National Anthem entirely and only play it at special occasions (like Thanksgiving or the Superbowl).

It's bizarre that they feel the need to sing it before every game. Talk about overkill.

Today I've seen a number of people in comments pages mention that the US Military pays the NFL to fly over the stadiums and have soldiers etc. at the games; these effectively staged events, coinciding with the anthem, coming out of the recruiting budgets. I don't know if this is true or not though.

That does seem to be the case, the money might not be directly for pre game festivities but the US military does sponsor the NFL the same way any other company does, the NFL in turn supports the troops at every turn and is happy to make a big deal of these things. Its a mutually beneficial thing but I think this anthem thing is the first time the NFL has met any opposition to one of its military ventures and instead of taking a step back and looking at the issue before it, its has decided to with the fascists solution which is all kinds of stupid.

The easiest solution is to go back to the days when the players werent on the field for the anthems, just have it when the players are in the lock room and then bring them out, can still do all the pagaentry, youre just changing the order slightly.
