I've done more drugs than politics on here and I seemed to come out alright.

Just for clarity, I'm not suggesting that this topic was contentious itself; personally I didn't really get on with the way the actual discussion went, rather than the subject matter. I wouldn't suggest or want the subject matter to be "stopped" or anything, of course; I'm (hopefully) just putting action on myself to better manage the types of chat subjects that I join in with.

We've moved on maybe but Scott Benson who worked with Alec Holowka on Night In The Woods has written about his relationship with him

Vice Gaming have been following up with accusers and survivors.

https://www.vice.com/amp/en_us/article/ ... s-of-abuse

Most notable: Jeremy Soule denies rape (and has apparently sent a cease and desist order to his accuser according to her Twitter) and Alexis Kennedy made some rather...confused comments on the record to Vice before asking they be withdrawn, which of course they weren't as that's not how journalism works.

It's a really interesting article.

EDIT; Just noticed the reflections on the thread that ended the last page.

I'm willing to admit I behaved hot headedly in here, as I tend to when a topic such as this is the focus of discussion. In my mind there is a certain black and whiteness to the way I feel reactions to these incidents should go. When people suggested otherwise, even mildly, I got needlessly in their face.

When I mentioned to Karl that ignoring certain users comments was not something I was prepared to do, this was more than a little childish on my part. I feel very strongly that the minimum I can do in these situations is fight back against what I perceive to be false equivalences and balancing. But I also realise my posting style often leaves me looking like the arsehole, the inflexibly biased one who refuses to listen. So I'm going to try and just ignore certain posts and chalk then down to... I don't even know. Ignorance? Whatever. Not important.

As was mentioned in the Cyberpunk split thread I'm wondering if there's any mechanical way to flag these threads and their content for people who don't want to see them? As Gecko mentioned, 'political' is a nebulous term but I have no problem with some enactment of a trigger warning mechanism if one were possible.

There is a way to flag threads as such on discourse, but nobody seemed to give a gooseberry fool about it.

:?:

I think the thread title of this thread should be enough for people to be able to avoid it. For something like Cyberpunk, just have two threads - one for gameplay/graphics/whatever only and one for the political themes.

I thought the move to Discourse was happening? I know there are some minor issues (IMO) that people aren't fond of, but, I think it's simply down to everyone being used to the way this is and Gamesradar (well, those that were there) are/were like. I'm not a massive fan of no pages, but, I'll get usee to it. I don't see anything drastically wrong with Discourse and the move will improve a lot of gooseberry fool which is breaking here.

I'm not really bothered about the nature of the topic, though I can see it could be annoying if there are two separate discussions in the same place. Maybe it could be in a different part of the forum, or flagged in a certain way, but whatever.

I am bothered about how people sometimes post, and that's not something you can deal with through any process based solution.

And I'm guilty of it myself as well for sure, so this isn't meant be a dig.

I guess some topics will cause people to react strongly and that's fair as well to have those feelings and those reactions.

Doesn't mean they shouldn't be discussed or that strong opinions shouldn't be aired either. Maybe it means the reverse.

I guess it just needs a step back and a bit of fresh air every now and again.

I agree with both of these (although I'm still salty about how the CP thread spilt went).

FWIW I'm definitely planning on revisiting Discourse once my thesis is in. I think what it needs is a theme that reminds people of this theme we use now, that might ease everyone in a bit. I can have a go at that once I have a bit more free time.

Is the discourse test server down at the moment? Went to have a poke on it after being reminded in here and it doesn't seem to be responding?

I agree that it's the way we need to go, and even after only playing about with it for a short time it already feels much more acceptable than at first glance.

Hadn't realised it was unreachable. It's back up now :) If anyone spots any issues with it, feel free to PM me, or post in the discourse test thread.

I thought Discourse had entered that "this is what this is like, it's objectively better, see if you like it" and then we can start developing on it provided people aren't strongly against it in which case, erm, am I supposed to lead in these kinds of situations? Probably.

I certainly don't think the idea of Discourse is dead. Totally off topic anyhows. I need to do my reading.
