It's much, much darker than I expected. I guess a lot of the more adult elements will go over the heads of kids. But still, I've currently just done the bit with Starey Mary's parents, and it pretty strongly hints at domestic abuse.

I got only my third Platinum today, thanks to this. Loved it to bits. I still feel like I have more to do. I'm not sure if it's possible to get 100% completeion in the creature compendium though. One of the creatures you're only able to obtain via a ticket after completing the game, which means you can't possibly get both final forms logged in the compendium :x.

It's a shame the game didn't do hugely well in Japan, it's a nice mix of Dragon Quest and Pokemon. The nods to the various Studio Ghibli films were a brilliant bit of fanservice too.

It didn't go hugely well in Japan because it wasn't that good. It was repetitive, grindy, and terrible inconsistent cut scenes. It did have charm though.

Ah yes, repetition and grinding. Japanese gamers seem to hate those things. Certainly if the weekly charts are anything to go by.

It did 1.4m worldwide (the number includes Japan only DS sales). Hopefully that's enough to secure a sequel.

I hope you mean "another Ghibli game" not a direct sequel.

About 8 hours into this now and I'm loving it. Can't remember the last game I played that was still introducing gameplay mechanics this far in (I've only just been told about 'Catching 'em all') and I still haven't really explored the effective/resistant type matchups (save for spotting that ice spells strawberry float over those banana monsters).

It's just so frickin' charming though, I love it.

Gots a PS3 but still no Ni no Kuni?

Well now's your chance as it's on sale for £3.99 on PSN.

I know I should grab it but I know I don't have the time to do long RPG games anymore. :(

Have had this on my hard drive for months now courtesy of that amazing £5 deal on PSN.

Worth giving a proper go, or should I go for ICO HD/ Okami HD for now?

I'd go with Ni No Kuni first.

Then ICO, finishing up with the majestic Okami.

Do you like JRPGs? For me, this starts off really charming, but gradually becomes more and more traditional as you go on. It does enough to maintain interest through, but I wouldn't say the story gets particularly compelling. The battle system is good and has plenty of facets, but you can get through any difficulty by grinding (the opening third of the game can get quite tricky).

It looks lovely and has some neat touches (the monster battling/training aspect is quite good albeit with a few unnecessary layers).

It suffers from a few JRPG drawbacks too - fetch quests and largely lifeless towns/villagers too.

I haven't played Okami but I would possibly go for that based on critical acclaim.

Cheers for the tip guys.

Must admit I always find it hard sticking with turn based battles as I am too impatient - nearly got to the end of FF 13, but gave up on that eventually after being defeated again and again.

ICO HD is a game I need to see the ending of, much like Okami HD, but I also have Zelda Majora's Mask, which I would love to complete. Don't think that 3DS remake is going to surface either now!

So many PS3 games to play, the PS4 is completely neglected now and I feel I should have waited at least a year and got a Wii U instead, which I badly want now!

Ni No Kuni's battle system isn't really turn-based. It all plays out in real time, but you can pause the action and cycle through menus as if it were turn-based. It is a little reminiscent of KOTOR's battles.

Oh I see, when I played the demo, it didn't seems I was doing anything in realtime, like Dark Souls or Zelda - I guess this is something a bit different. Just looks so amazing, it would be sad to miss out on this, and it seems pretty likely with the backlog and then the current gen to delve into.

Nintendo Life leaking this on their front page without any form of hiding was atrocious. Oh well...

When I briefly and stupidly bought a PS3 this was one of the only games I played, and the only one I enjoyed. I didn’t play much of it due to it being on PS3 and me spending most of my week somewhere without a telly, so this is a godsend; but what a way to find out about it.

Wicked, I got quite a way into this originally but something else came out so I stopped playing. Debating on if I should get this on Switch or PS4 now.
