Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Proper Tidy

This will genuinely be the first JRPG I've ever owned/played. Again the closest I've got is action RPGs like The Legend Of Zelda series. I've never played a Pokemon game, Final Fantasy game...

I guess I'm in for another steep learning curve. Always been fascinated though so I'm sure I'll like it. It's justifying the time that's the problem...

I finished the Tombstone Trail just now - how long do I have left?

A while to go yet.

I think I may have to grind a bit again now, having been overpowered for the first third I am suddenly being pounded. Where are those Toko creatures?

The game feels very plodding all of a sudden also - nowhere near as magical as back in January.

Sadly that is how I felt after about the halfway mark in the story. By the end I was just happy to finish it and didn't even attempt any of the post-game content. The opening couple of hours are up there with the best JRPGs have to offer though and Drippy is still a top boyo :wub:

Dunno if this is a good starting point for jrpgs I not purposefully mauling it every time I see it mentioned. It just really wasn't that special or engrossing which is bad because I was sure it would suck me in like new generation jrpgs with green fields and smoking chimneys. Something on par with chrono trigger, Suikoden or final fantasy up to X.

Sadly it's empty, looks amazing but is incredibly dull. I played enough to decide it wasn't for me. On top of that the combat system is far from the best the genre has to offer.

So if you don't like it don't judge all jrpgs on this one.

Okey dokey. I'm hoping the Studio Ghibli visuals and childhood/innocence lost(?) storyline suck me in tbh. Looks lush...

Is it difficult?

The last boss fight can be if you aren't properly prepared. Certain monsters in areas you open up (like in the starting zone of the over-world map) will also initially leave you bruised. But other than that it's not difficult at all.

Caved in & bought it. Never ever played a jrpg
before but I will play it later as it will be sat in my
backlog of doom for a while.

I've set it to easy but still a little unsure of the battles, are you supposed to move around? I just keep hitting x to attack and x to select the monster I'm fighting, x x x x until defeated.

Not used defend yet. Is that ermm ...ethically correct? :lol:

Love the cartoon world though, really feels like a proper Studio Ghibli film, and Mr Drippy is cracking me up (sounds very similar to Rhod Gilbert haha!)

I would play on normal, to be honest. That is likely why the battles are easy and you are getting through with button mashing. You will still mash buttons on normal (well, I do, especially with the physical attack monsters) but you will pay more attention to elements types and defense.

Grinding is also fairly easy in the game so it isn't really hard. It is arguably hardest in the first third, where you do have to be careful. Conserve MP is my advice.

I'm surprised how risqué Ni No Kuni actually is. I finally got around to opening my Collector's Edition (amazing how it dropping to £4.94 seemingly spurred me into this), and the localisation is Dragon Quest levels of amazing. The Cat King giving you a spell for picking locks and one for rejuvenating, because he hadn't used them since he was young, and Drippy dryly wondering what he got up to in his younger days that he would need spells to pick a lock and one to return something to its original state... :lol:

It may just be my dirty mind, but so far this isn't what I was expecting from something Ghibli associated.

I bought this in the PSN sale but no idea what to expect really. Is it something my 4&5 yr olds could watch me play or is it something scary for that age group?

It's a very colourful pokemon-esque Japanese RPG that's perfectly suited for the younger gamer.
