I've seen it mentioned on here a few times: is Ever Oasis any good?

In my head I should like it. I love Animal Crossing, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy Explorers/Crystal Chronicles, Chrono Trigger etc.

I enjoyed the demo quite a bit, but I can imagine how it might become repetitive. It's not that standard JRPG grindfest affair but kind of follows along similar lines.

That said, I'm enjoying Bravely Second way too much which is by all definitions a JRPG, the one thing that helps it tremendously is the option to effectively turn off random battles by reducing the rate of random battle occurrence by 100% via a really quick menu option, so that simple traversal isn't such a slog.

I did just get a Bha'al attacking Fort Luna the other day though that has over 6 million hitpoints, what the strawberry float, after a quick search can see where the grinding is (endgame and there's a new game +).

I loved it, one of my favourite 3DS games. I'm very into anything that blends RPG with town building and Ever Oasis' specific flavour of that (zelda-y dungeons and theme park sim shop management) works really well

Go for it, Lime - we can rock our 3DS consoles in 2021! I'm just starting out and had forgotten just how strange - perhaps even a little creepy - the storyline is. There are lots of fun and silly aspects to it, as well :-).

I've been thinking about it lately and it finally seems to be the manifestation of the weird very late demos for the GameCube with webcam and face capture technology having your "mini me's" (Miis) doing little playground and school classroom activities. It's crazy to to think it took 10-15 years for them to release something along those lines, that's quintessentially Japanese and is really very risky and innovative over here. I know people generally dislike Miis/ the "Wii era" but amongst all the rehashes Nintendo really do make some flipping weird games every couple of years.

Yeah, I kinda get that feeling, too, from amongst the more "core" gamers. I liked the Mii's, though, and I hope that stuff like Miitopia and Mario Golf will bring them back into the picture for folk that do like 'em :-).

I constantly miss Nintendo's "Wii shop" style music, which was for me the best thing to come out of the "Wii era"

Just got a Wii Fit as well for the first time which is hillarious. I always saw the appeal, but maybe it actually makes more sense entering into Nintendo's expanded target market at the time...

Miis were great, the only bad thing about them was that they inspired the Xbox 360 Avatars. :dread:
