Nobody was asking for Nintendo to make a router. Of the 11 million Wii owners out there none of them were disgruntled by the lack of an officially branded router.

The first rule of advertising is to give the customer what they don't know they want yet.

This has only as yet been confirmed for Japan I believe. I also am given to understand that Japanese gamers have been more reluctant to embrace the delights of an online enabled console than their western counterparts. So this coupled with the telephone helpline to advise Japanese Wii owners on how to get their Wii online seems to be Nintendo's response to that.

It will be interesting to see if they release this in the Americas and Yurop/Other.

Oh so you know that they're not then? Your secrets - let you show us them.

How does it connect on the wired side? If it's by ethernet, then it's a strawberry float yes great product, if it's by USB, then it's a strawberry floating piece of worthless gooseberry fool.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I think he meant this image:

Which shows it does connect via Ethernet.

You guys know that Apple already sells a very similar product to this called "Airport Express", right?

The difference being that Airport Express can be hooked to a pair of speakers to stream any music from iTunes wirelessly and it can also have USB devices attached to it which are shared with any computer on the network (printer, scanner, hard drive etc).

Yes I know, I own one, but the problem is it can only act as a bridge with other WDS routers. Not a problem for me as my otehr router is an airport extreme, but if this can bridge to any router then it's better for that purpose. Though the express has the hi fi functionality, and the N standard.

Surreal. Slightly outwith Nintendo's usual hardware output, and they've missed a trick indeed if it doesn't support N.#

On the other hand, finding a router that supports the Wii and DS is a troublesome feat for some, and the "Wifi adaptor plugged into a PC" has to be pretty uneconomical.

Still, it seems like Nintendo has been talking to external hardware vendors. A hard drive surely can't be far away.

Nintendo's already confirmed its storage solution is 'better than a hard drive'. It's either SD-based (almost certain given Vicarious Visions' CEO's recent comments) or some kind of online storage system.

Though fish you are right in saying it's far superior to buying a 360 wireless adapter.

Perfect, I'll pick one up for the 360 alone, depending on what internet access I get at uni, the horrendously expensive adaptor for 360 put me off taking it online in the first place.

Looks like I might be playing Left 4 Dead after all.

Airport Express = gooseberry fool.
Great idea from Nintendo especially if its easy to setup, i work as a Internet technical support adviser and know most router are too complicated for your average internet user, I could see this working quite well.

Online storage is a step back IMO as it requires you to be online all the time.

However, it is possible to upgrade the amount of storage space available exponentially wihtout any effort on the part of the consumer.

Online storage solves nothing because the content still has to be transferred locally to be used.

It's essentially what we already have with the Shop Channel. The problem is the local storage is too small. It tends to overflow very quickly, requiring the consumer to manage that content in some fashion, and the existing means of content management is terribly inefficient, requiring a trip to at least two seperate screens to transfer games and saves to the SD card slowly.

I haven't seen his comments Chris - could you point me in their direction please? Also, I said to someone on here in a PM a few months ago that their storage solution would be online based so \o/.
