Nintendo's granted the first of its New Play Control series games for the Wii firm release dates, with New Play Control! Pikmin launching on February 6, while New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis will be available from March 6.

Offering revamped versions of GameCube titles, both games make use of the Wiimote to reinvigorate some of Nintendo's recent classics. There's more than just a modernised control scheme in offer as well - New Play Control! Pikmin features a revised save system that replaces the restrictive model of the original, while New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis adds more camera options and a new split-screen mode. Both form the first batch of seven titles receiving the refit treatment, with both Metroid Prime and ChibiRobo also slated to be released under the New Play Control banner.

The details came from Nintendo's UK office, and we've reached out to see if the release date is worldwide. We'll report back when we hear anything new.

I am so excited about this because my Pikmin disc was so small that I lost it. No chance of that happening with this!

New Play Control Luigi's Mansion please!

I can't believe Nintendo aren't doing this already, complete missed opportunity :fp: Same goes for F-Zero GX with online play and optional motion control.

I have Chibi-Robo for the Gamecube but it randomly deleted my save so I didn't go back to it. I'll definitely be getting the re-release. Also can't wait for Metroid Prime 1&2.

I didn't realise these were coming out so soon. I've never played Pikmin so I might get that but Mario Tennis with Wii controls would be awesome too.

As great as these games are, it's quite a sad state of affairs that these are all Nintendo are releasing in the near future. I imagine we'll get one every month until the Summer.

A bit pricey, £20 and I'll bite.

I've seen a video of Pikmin and I'm definitely getting that at some point (I missed out on the original), although I'm undecided about Mario Tennis.

£24.99 is overpriced if you ask me :?

£19.99 max is all these are worth.

Never experienced Pikmin or Mario Tennis on the Gamecube so should be fun, even at £29.99 I am not overly bothered because I have never played them for more than 5 minutes. Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda WW plus extra dungeons is what I really want though!

Re-release Killer7. Who cares if it wasn't a Nintendo game. Just do it. I never got to play it and want to. But with pointer controls an' gooseberry fool.

Nintendo Press Release wrote:Reworked exclusively for the Wii’s NEW PLAY CONTROL! series, Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis are now more fluid and intuitive to play whilst still providing the entertainment and challenges of the original Nintendo GameCube games. If that has got you excited than 2009 will be your year as Pikmin 2 and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat are also among two of many games which will be making their way to the NEW PLAY CONTROL! series - only on Wii.

Link

Great news that Jungle Beat is confirmed, and given that Pikmin 2 is likewise I may cash in on my GC copy I bought for a tenner seeing as it goes for £20-£30 on Ebay.

This.

I have it on the GC and probably won't buy the re-release, but the controls would be perfect for the Wii remote. You could even play the entire game with the remote alone even.

I'm not really interested at that price unfortunately.

Man, I remember back in 2007 when I was buying first-party Wii games for around £20 new.

They need to re-release Zelda: Four Sword on the Wii with DS wifi connectivity. I bet it'd be so easy to do, and it would let me relive that game with a friend or two. It was mint, but having to have the GBA's, link-up cables and what not make it pretty much impossible to bother trying to replay on the GC since I sold them on.
