So just Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Kirby Clash, Little Town Hero, Smash Bros update, Link's Awakening, Rogue Company, SNES games for NSO, Tetris 99 update, Mario and Sonic Olympics, Daemon X Machina, Pokemon S&S, Animal Crossing and whatever else was in that sizzle reel?

(Taking out Deadly Premonition (2) and anything that can be classed as a port be it previously on Nintendo consoles or otherwise is dismissing lots from the direct also. Obra Din is one of the more exciting announcements for me for example.)

Well the SNES Online stuff’s all ports, and indeed ports that Wii U owners in most cases had available on VC; so that goes. LTH I’m genuinely keen on. The others are mostly games we’ve seen already, and arguably (in the case of Luigi’s Mansion almost certainly) don’t need to know any more about.

I’m not disappointed: as mentioned above, I was expecting a low-key Direct because were swimming in games right now, and that’s what I got. What gets me excited is new non-port games being announced, and I’m fine with not having too many of those right now.

And realistically, Metroid 2D was the only one you might hope to see:

2D Mario - just released Mario Maker 2
3D Mario - if Odyssey 2 is 2020, it's most likely to be a holiday release so would expect a March/E3 announcement

2D Zelda - literally releasing a new one in 2 weeks
3D Zelda - just announced a sequel to BOTW at E3, which let's be fair, was earlier than everyone expected

2D Metroid - ???
3D Metroid - We know we won't be seeing that for a few years

1) Can someone chuck me a YT link for this?
2) Can someone list what was shown?

Thanks.

There's plenty of other stuff that excites me, the Xenoblade announcement for one, and like I say there's a whole host of other stuff that we already knew about that I'm really looking forward to.

It's just most of the new announcements on this Direct didn't really click with me personally. They were either games I've played on other platforms (Obra Dinn, Divinity, Witcher) or stuff that just doesn't float my boat sadly.

Any idea what time the SNES stuff launches today? Was hoping to play something tonight before bed. I might finally complete ALTTP and Super Metroid now, despite buying them about three times each on the VC.

We still got three in Super Kirby Clash, Rogue Company and Deadly Premonition 2.

I would argue Little Town Hero was near enough a new game announcement too. We'd had a single previous look at it without even a proper title and weren't even sure it was ever coming out.

I kept the faith, OR. I kept the faith!

The other two games you mentioned... Maybe it’s just my personal taste, but I thought they looked meh. The Kirby one looked like an expanded spin-off, and not a great one at that (also see earlier comments re. Kirby in general) and Rogue Company reminded me of that weird treasure hunter four-player co-op game that released a while ago and sank without trace. Think it might actually have been Treasure-developed, but can’t remember the name...

DP2... I guess we’ll see.

Wasn't Town mentioned in several previous Direct's? Seem to recall we'd seen a reasonable amount of it.

It looks fun although the performance seemed very ropey.

I think this is the first time we've seen it since its initial reveal in the Sept 2018 Direct.

I think you mean Lost Reavers, the F2P wiiu game initially announced as Project Treasure? That was Bandai Namco.

(Possibly you could mean Strange Brigade by Rebellion too, but that's not a Nintendo game)

Rogue Company is by Hi-Rez Studios - they have developed Realm Royale (not Fortnite), Paladins (not Overwatch) and Smite (not League of Legends). All popular enough I believe, but all highly derivative multiplayer trend chasing.

The hint of melee reminded me somewhat of Devil's Third at least.

Yeah you're right. For some reason I thought it had popped up again since then!

I’m bloody impressed that you got it (it was indeed Lost Reavers) from what I said! Yep, not exactly a rosy outlook for this new game. Is being anything like Devil’s Third a good thing? :P

I wish I worked for Retro. Imagine not having to make anything for that amount of time.

It was a lot but, at least to me, a lot of it was uninteresing. The 3rd party particually, if they are bringing older ports over, why not things like Bioshock, Tomb Raider or the Batman trilogies? Why are they not actively pursuing content like this?

Also, we are in the same position now in terms of Nintendo Exclusives for next year's release calender as we were this time last year.

Jan - TMS #FE (2019 had NSMBU:Deluxe)
Feb -
March - Animal Crossing (2019 had Yoshi's crafted world)
April -
May-
June -

So (as of right now) it's going to be exactly like last year where the first half of the Year is barren in terms of Ninty content. Why can they not spread the releases out better? Will everyhting be backloaded in the second half again next year?

It's too early to judge next year-they could easily announce games for April to June in the January Direct. Animal Crossing is a pretty major release for Q1 too, it's one of Nintendo's top IPs.

Also, in your list Mario Maker 2 was a June release...just ;)

They could, but I agree with Milner that there’s a real risk of them blowing their load in 3 months. Of course, some people will still be playing Animal Crossing by June... ;)

Anyway, hopefully we’ll get another Direct in January and some games will land immediately afterwards.
