It was average at best frankly. Whole load of games that I'm not too fussed about and ports of games that I'm not too fussed about.

Everyone should get Obra Dinn though. That game was awesome.

Yes.

Though I'm sure it really was right up some people's street...

It was an okay Direct.

No crazy big reveals, but perhaps we've been spoilt in recent Directs. And that's understandable. Nintendo are in the middle of an incredible 6 month period of releases (Mario Maker 2, Fire Emblem, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening and Pokémon is a crazy run) and going into 2020, Animal Crossing releases in March. One more big reveal for 2020 would have been nice and I'm disappointed TMS x FE is filling the Jan/Feb Wii U port slot as there's a few others prefer.

As a Direct though, it was well paced. Announcements rattled through, especially from third party developers. It's a shame Overwatch leaked as that's a nice title for Switch. I turned away from the Luigi's Mansion stuff as they seem, to be throwing a lot out now which would be much nicer to be surprised by. Animal Crossing looked as nice as you'd expect although that segment didn't work well for the Direct's pacing. I'm very excited by XC, having only played (and loved) XC2. It looked very nice-using the same engine as XC2 I assume.

Also, shadow dropping Banjo was cool but as someone underwhelmed by the fighter pass (bar BK, the third party reps just aren't to my taste), I'm very excited by the prospect of more characters. I'm hoping they go back to Nintendo IPs, because I'd love recent characters like Rex/Pyra, Springman/Ribbon Girl, Edelgard and an Astral Chain rep to get in. Add a Sword/Shield rep and I imagine a Nintendo Fighter Pass for Season 2 would sell very well.

I wasn’t underwhelmed because of what Toumous said. I was just... whelmed.

Try taking DP2 and the ports out. That’s how it looked for me. Not all that, but that’s okay.

They do need something else in that Jan/Feb slot though, much though I’m keen to try TMS.

Xenoblade Remake and SNES games, YES.

Really surprised by Xenoblade, given the 3DS version coming out a few years back. I will happily buy it again.

Forget to mention SNES games, because it wasn't really a surprise but I'm really excited to plug the gap and play some of the classics I've never played.

On a separate note, people seem to have accepted we're not getting anything from Retro until Metroid Prime 4. That will be a 2021 title at best, but realistically, 2022. 8-9 years after Tropical Freeze's initial release. They must have had at least one project fail, although really, most likely two. I really wish they'd just gone on to do another DKCR, and completed their trilogy

So just Luigi's Mansion 3, Super Kirby Clash, Little Town Hero, Smash Bros update, Link's Awakening, Rogue Company, SNES games for NSO, Tetris 99 update, Mario and Sonic Olympics, Daemon X Machina, Pokemon S&S, Animal Crossing and whatever else was in that sizzle reel?

(Taking out Deadly Premonition (2) and anything that can be classed as a port be it previously on Nintendo consoles or otherwise is dismissing lots from the direct also. Obra Din is one of the more exciting announcements for me for example.)

I think they just said 2020 at the end of the announcement - hopefully it will be nearer the start of the year than the end. (They can then release XC3 later in the year ;) )

OrangeRKN wrote:Baffled that people found that underwhelming tbh

Like I said I'm not that fussed on most of the franchises that they have been heavy into recently (AC, Smash, Pokemon etc.) so there just wasn't much new stuff that really caught my attention.

They still have a strong line up for the next 6 months and there are lots of things I am interested in getting, there just wasn't much that I've added to my wishlist after watching this (basically Xenoblade).

I want my new Mario game now please! :P

By the way, how good does Sonic and Mario at the Olympics look? With a Tokyo Olympics, I reckon that will sell like hotcakes.

If all that will excite you is a new Mario, Zelda or Metroid then you're going to come away disappointed and that's your problem :P

Story mode is a very cool addition. I was buying it anyway, but it's looking better all the time.
