The more suckers buy it, the more chance we'll get better AC games for the Switch. Like Assassin's Creed II.

AC3 was so boring :dread: Most boring protagonist in the series. Most boring time period in the series. It had a really strong start with that twist then when it switched to Connor it was all downhill from there,

Was disappointed not to see anything of Luigi's Mansion 3 or Animal Crossing, can only assume they're releases for later on in the year. October release for Luigi to coincide with Halloween perhaps? Would have expected AC to release earlier but maybe they have it lined up to help sell systems around Christmas. Having that and another new Pokemon would definitely help get some more 3DS converts in time for Christmas.

Link's Awakening looked brilliant and I'm looking forward to Mario Maker as I didn't play much of the Wii U version at all. Tetris was a nice surprise, as was the Captain Toad DLC. I've never played a Box Boy game but again, I really like the look of that so I'll definitely be giving it a go. I'd hoped the originals may also show up, but maybe that will happen further down the line.

The rest didn't really do a lot for me if I'm honest - Astral Chain might turn out to be interesting but it didn't really grab me and I've never got going with the Fire Emblem series. Most of the ports are games I'd probably buy elsewhere, if at all. Still, it's good to see that plenty of new content is coming to the Switch again this year.

I could see Animal Crossing being their September game.

Animal Crossing in September
Luigi’s Mansion 3 in October
Pokémon gen 8 in November
Link’s Awakening remake in December

The American Revolution was, and remains, a great setting, plus it introduced tree running and other natural terrain parkour, which remain nice additions to the regular urban parkour the series is known for. However, the potential was just squandered, probably in part due to inexperience with creating rural playgrounds that are both fun and interesting, and also because of the stupid sci-fi plots, not to mention the ridiculously linear assassinations (Pitcairn stands out to me even today). Watching AMC's Turn: Washington's Spies, it has become clear to me that AC3 could have been dramatically different, building not only the foundations of the naval gameplay that would go on to underpin multiple future AC titles, but also espionage gameplay that could have been the foundations of AC titles set much further into the future.

I did like Connor and the Native American angle, and I really liked the city gameplay, but overall I think they should have started the American adventure with Edward and worked forward, once that naval gameplay was nailed down, rather than ham-fistedly attempting a subject the tech of the day couldn't really do any justice to.

I have zero problems with the sci-fi parts of AC3 the problem was the rest of the game, bar the first hour.

Did you only play as Haythem for the first hour? While it sounds like I’m one of the few on here who enjoyed AC3 the start was still the best part.

I feel we will be getting another Direct soon (Late March/Early April) where they will show off Smash 3.0, more Mario Maker 2 and I have to imagine they have a retail game to release before June (My bet would be either Animal Crossing releasing early or the rumoured Pikmin 3 port)

100%, at the very least we will get a Pokemon specific one to announce Gen 8 but I think they will have a general one where they announce the date Joker drops in Smash + announce the next Smash DLC character. They also seem to have made a big deal over Smash 3.0 in this Direct, why mention it if it’s not adding something substantial (perhaps this could be the return of Break the Target and Homerun Contest Modes)

Also, depending on when Mario Maker 2 releases in June, they will want to showcase that game again before launch.

I thought Pokémon did things differently? I thought that the starters are first revealed during some Pokémon thing on Japanese TV when the Anime is on and it is shown through that. Have they ever done a Pokémon specific Direct?

Pokémon Directs have been pretty common since XY. Usually one comes at a start of the generation giving the timeline and saying how changes have been made over the generations before giving the titles and a slight look at something in the games [starters for 6, concept art for 7]. Then other Directs proceed to give more information. But it's always a Pokémon Direct that gives the information. I don't think there's ever been a general Direct with Pokémon news in it.

I think Let’s Go was announced in a standard direct wasn’t it? (Well, maybe the E3 one, I can’t remember), still not exactly a new generation of games so I guess that’s why they didn’t see the need for an entirely separate direct to announce it.

Think it was Shy Guy 64 in the normal Switch thread who said new generations of Pokémon games have been announced near Pokémon day (near the end of February) in Japan, well the last couple anyway.
