If Nintendo don't bring Fusion to Switch as part of NSO I'm going to get out my SP and play through it again in a week or so.

Fusion

Fusion was my first metroid game. I played a bit of that, then tracked down prime trilogy and fell in love with the series.

I've played:

Super
Prime 1, 2 & 3
Fusion
Zero mission

And that's it, so I've got a few left to play as well as dread.

I'm not all that fussed about tracking down and playing all of the games, things like Other M, Federation Force and Prime Hunters don't really feel "essential" to me.

AM2R is worth playing on PC if you get a chance - basically a fan made port of Metroid 2 that brings it in line with Super/Fusion style in appearance

I've played:

- Metroid Prime 3 (Wii)
- Metroid 2 (GB)
- Metroid Prime Hunters (DS)

Haven't finished any of them, and don't see why people make such a fuss over the series!

I forgot those ones even existed. I'd probably give other M a try, but the other two can strawberry float right off.

I think I got AM2R downloaded before it got taken down.

Might try Samus returns on 3DS, but the download is pretty pricey.

Jenuall wrote:Ranking is all well and good but struggles to convey clear feelings for each individual year, so how about this question:

Does anyone think that the Switch has had a genuinely BAD year?

I think 2020 comes closest for me, but I'd still hesitate to say it was a bona fide bad year as I still had some great experiences on the Switch - it was barebones but the nostalgia hit of 3D All-Stars did a great job of papering over the cracks in the later period of the year

Yep. 2020. I think 3D All-Stars was a bad release - as in, sure the game's were good, but everything else around it was bad. Minimal effort carry-overs for games that deserved better, and that's before getting into the limited time aspect. I hate that it exists.

Meanwhile we had Animal Crossing as the only genuine blow-you-away exclusive release. If you didn't like ACNH so much you were stuffed, and even if you did I'd say it and the handful of other new games around it weren't sufficient. Was it Wii U At Its Nadir? Maybe not, but Nintendo fans had the 3DS to fall back on then, and after its slow start was over the 3DS hardly ever had a bad year. Remember, the Switch is supposed to be doing the work of two machines.

Also if you look at full years since launch then the second one, mostly consisting of 2018, was bad for me despite Smash and Hollow Knight. Celeste saved 2018 a bit for me, but was part of the the best first year of a console ever.

Age of Calamity satisfies that condition for me too from Nintendo. Then there was Hades, which was a console launch exclusive and is up alongside Celeste and Hollow Knight for best indie gaming on Switch.

I kinda want the last Smash character to be announced and it ends up being another Fire Emblem character just for the reactions

Ori Will of the Wisps and Paper Mario were both 2020 and both great.

The announcement video should be a battle royale between Fire Emblem characters trying to take the final slot, until right at the end Kirby slams in and the final slot is just Kirby, again. Cut to Sakurai laughing.

I thought Hades was a multiplat release straight off. Okay, a point for that, but not enough to drag it out of the doldrums. I'd feel better about Age of Calamity if it wasn't a title in a relatively niche genre in the position of the Big Christmas game.

Also: I'm trying as much as possible to remove my own tastes from this, but none of those three games or Paper Mario (or Ori 2) spark any enthusiasm in me and I'm struggling to look past that! I was going to get AoC but apparently the frame rate's duff in co-op.

What about something to do with Microsoft? Anyone think we could see another MS release on Switch?

I would love Tunic on Switch - and it's the kind of release I can actually imagine happening

I’d like Dark Souls 2
N64 games
Some news on this Switch exclusive Resident Evil
Some DLC for Odyssey or new DLC for Mario Kart

I don’t expect to see any of these things though, barring maybe the n64 games.

No chance we’re getting N64 games. If there is a surprise it might be GB ones. Only thing Metroid I see is a 5 minute hard sell on Dread, which will be nice.

I have played Metroid, Metroid 2, super Metroid, Metroid fusion, Metroid zero mission, Metroid prime 1,2 and 3, Metroid other M. I have finished Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime (the 1st one) I am basically a fan of the 2D ones and not much into the 3D.

There was that talk about a potential N64 controller being revealed this week, so that’s where I’ve got my optimism from.
