On average, I'd say it'd be two minutes per game, with a few of the more important games getting those four minutes. Animal Crossing would definitely be one of those games. Luigi's Mansion 3 I think would get three minutes. Smash DLC would be two, though some of that time would be shared with a new game reveal if one were coming related to that character.

If you look at the past 2 years they very rarely spend more than 2 minutes on one game. Normally it’s somewhere between 1 and 2 minutes, even on unannounced games. Odyssey only got 2 mins and 30 seconds in 2017.

Smash last year is obviously the big exception but I don’t think they’ll do that again this year. Or at least not 25 minutes-i agree with you that AC and LM3 should get some decent focus though.

Didn't Smash get about 45 minutes last year? :fp:

That was a terrible conference.

Just under 25 minutes, of the 40-45 minutes.

The difference was, last year they didn’t have anything else to show but Smash, Pokemon (which was just a remake) and Super Mario Party.

This year, we know they have plenty coming already.

I'm trying not to get too excited because that was the biggest let down, even worse because it was basically a Wii U port with additional content.

There just seems to be so many first party games (see poll) due for release in the coming months for them to just dwell on a single one.

Pokemon S&S and Fire Emblem are their big winter 2019 titles, but they've already had enough Direct focus on them.

I don’t want to derail the thread but this is just completely wrong. The game was in development for longer than the Wii U game and built from the ground up.

Did you actually play Ultimate because that's a load of shite. Reminds me of all the idiots saying the same about Splatoon 2.

Aye. Splatoon 2 and Smash Ultimate were fully-fledged sequels, just like Mario Maker 2 is. It's weird that it became a meme that they are "just Wii U ports".

You’re both right. Smash was built from the ground up but the small amount of new content (that matters, that is characters and courses) at release made it feel like a Wii U rehash. ‘Everyone is here! And almost all of them have been so for at least two games already!’

(EDIT: There were only two posts on the topic when I started typing. )

I hope the DLC character gets no more than a minute. I hope we get at least three big surprise games (not ports/remasters). And I hope they don’t devote half the Direct to any game (looking at you Animal Crossing). Otherwise I go in with my expectations low.

Not wanting to derail the thread any further but nah, calling it "basically a Wii U port" is straight up incorrect and completely ignores all the non-cosmetic changes to the game. Anyone thinking otherwise is either just trolling (probably true since it's Nick, after all) and being wilfully ignorant, or hasn't actually played it at all.

If it was a WiiU port it would have included the GOAT board game mode

At this point I think I'd be over the moon with 30mins of Animal Crossing.

Plus 10 mins of Luigi of course. :datass:

He’s got me!

But yep, I’m not trolling... for the most part. What matters to me is being able to beat up new Nintendo characters (Echoes don’t count) on new arenas, and Smash Ultimate didn’t concentrate on that. I couldn’t care less that Pichu came back and was a top-tier character. Granted, the new characters they did introduce were precisely the right ones (Ridley, K. Rool, Inkling).

I think I might suffer at this E3 through my indifference to Animal Crossing. :(

The entirety of last year felt like it was dedicated to Smash. I've already said [in multiple places] that Smash should never have got as much focus as it did. The Treehouse was a chore to watch because the threat of more Smash was always looming, and looking at my Excel document of last year [yes, I have one. I've got 2015 to present recorded in it. Why are you looking at me like that?] that was pretty much correct for the first day where there was equal amounts Smash and any other game. And that was on top of the Smash Invitational the same day. The second and third days weren't so bad, but there was still more Smash than was needed.

2017 did indeed only allow a maximum of three minutes per game, but that was about fifteen minutes shorter. And considering the amount of segments in that Direct [12], the average per segment was only two minutes. There'd need to be 20 segments within this Direct to hit that average this year, which isn't out of the realm of possibility, but I suspect it'd be closer to 15 [giving an average of around two and a half minutes]. There's already seven known games with a strong possibility of showing, and one confirmed DLC showing. There's going to be more.

I am hoping for nothing but Animal Crossing. I want a Zelda BotW-E3-2016 style level of immersion :datass: .

I would quite like to see them try and fill 30 minutes with new Smash info.

The virtual console dream is probably long dead, but NSO expanding with additional consoles would be great too.

"Hello, and welcome to the Treehouse for E3 2019. We have a lot of Animal Crossing to come, but first we wanted to show you something."
Video plays showing the landscape of the town, pans up to the sky, and reveals the full name.
"Yes, Animal Crossing [Subtitle] is here, and we'll be providing a ton of details about it throughout the next few hours. But first, we've got Pokémon Sword and Shield gameplay to show you, so see you in a bit."

All of the Direct should be about new micro-transactions for existing games IMVHO.

A new F-Zero but it's online only (requires sub) and VR only (through Labo), unlocked with a new giant Blue Falcon amiibo (RRP $60), and you can only play 3 races a day unless you purchase more energy through the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app
